Anyway, I just finished making a nice githzerai druid of ECL 6, for a campaign by one of my campaign's players and a friend of mine who's pretty open to most things, completely closed-minded to others. Anyway, I'm featuring this druid around the wolf stereotype, with a wolf companion and a PC werewolf follower. The wolf companion, thanks to a little feat called Natural Bond, (+3 to your effective druid level for companion's bonuses, from Complete Adventurer) the wolf has 6 hit dice. Now the questions. 1) Because the wolf now has 6 hit dice, does it now have a large size as per the HD advancement? 2) If so, would I then be able to use the wolf as a mount? It would also be nice if I didn't need a saddle to ride him either. Any answers would be appreciated. |

It is debatable whether it gets feats and stat increases as per normal HD advancement, but the size do not. |

It does get feats and skills, as the Animal Companion sidebar says. It does not get anything else from normal Advancement, because it isn't being Advanced, it is being granted bonus HD for being your animal companion. If you were to release it from that bond, it would return to being a completely normal wolf, statistically. So, no size, and no attribute bonuses, or anything else. The attribute bonuses from being an animal companion are better, anyway, you just don't have any choice as to how much goes to which stat. |
