Xexon 12-02-04, 05:24 AM	I'm preparing a 6th level Ranger/1st level Horizon Walker for an upcoming game session. I'm creating an eagle as an animal companion. Because I have 6 levels of ranger the animal companion gains 2 bonus HDs. Under the Eagle stat block in MM it states that the Eagle (being a small animal) advances to Medium size upon gaining 2HD. Does this rule count with the animal companion or not?
Thorak 12-02-04, 07:10 AM	No, the animal isn't being Advanced, it's gaining bonus HD for being an animal companion of a higher level Ranger. If you were to set it free, it would lose those bonus HD and all the extra abilities. Very specifically, animal companions gain feats and skills as if they had Advanced that number of HD. Nothing else from that chart.
