Adventuring Group Names [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-11-06, 03:55 AM Does anyone know of a generator that makes names of Adventuring Groups...ala Order of the Stick, or whatever.

Ideally I'd base an active group name on something relevant to the group, but I need a couple options just for backstory purposes.

03-11-06, 08:32 AM I don't know of a generator, but personally I wouldn;t use them anyway. I'm a writer, and like to come up with EVERYTHING myself, even down to something as insignificant as where my chgaracter got the third button up on his shirt ;-) (a dark stormy night, long long ago)

But anyway, it might serve you better to ask us for suggestions if you give us the basic idea of what you're party IS

I'm not sure if it is exactly what you are looking for, but it's worth a shot. Hope it helps you.

03-11-06, 09:34 AM Well, you also need to take a look at your party's background and things. Like, my all half-dragon party is called the Firstcomers, because they were the first dragon-beings on an otherwise dragonless world.

03-12-06, 03:14 PM Why bother with naming adventuring groups? If the players want to name their group, fine; but otherwise what's the point?

I have no problem with naming clans or armies of marauders; but considering how risky the adventuring biz is, the turnover rate in a party is alarming. NPCs can be traded like professional athletes in any team sport league.

"What was that, Al? The rest of White Dragons team was wiped out? :uh-huh: That's too bad. Tell ya what, why don't you ride with us for a bit until you can get your own team restarted. Welcome to the Moth Reavers, a..um, Al! Here's your team tunic and contract-sign here. Now, you did salvage as much of their gear as ya could, right? :plotting:"

03-14-06, 11:06 AM Several years ago a friend of mine was DMing a party that would ALWAYS complain about the treasure they got. That didn't even stop when they raided a demon's castle and found millions worth in gold. He named them the Party of Paupers

It always seems to be thrown at you while the party is at that fragile stage where you're metagaming like mad trying not to just drift away from these casual acquaintances who the mayor sent with you to clear out those kobold caves.

I'd hate to think I've ever been deliberately obstructive as a player, but work with me here DM! I'm trying to think of a reason to stay with these guys for one more drink so that you can throw the next plot hook our way, and all of a sudden I have to sign a document to say my camels are their camels? These guys could be mass murderers for all I know! It's like someone proposing marriage after three dates.

Don't mind me. I'm just bitter because our current group is stuck with the World's Stupidest Name (TM) because we couldn't agree on one in character so the DM picked one for us. Bah.
