In our last session we realized we were not traveling to our objective very quickly. We are having some trouble negotiating the rough terrain/caverns. We even lost 2 days having Stone Giants ferry us across the lake and the giants told us to watch out for the island and some kinda crab thing that eats people like us.

Anyway I thought I should cast wind walk on us to speed up the lake crossing time but read the description incorrectly and thought I had to cast it on each person in the party. Later after crossing I read it again and seen that I could cast it twice and get all of us Wind Walking. We agreed upon doing this and made some great time traveling. We came across some stupid bell and for some reason everyone thought I should ring it. The DM said since I was the caster of the spell only I could end the gaseous form thing for me or for someone else.

Anyway I got to ringing the bell (stupid) and got attacked by 5 gargoyle things that kept casting rays at me and chill touching. 4 rounds later, 9 str penalty/damage later and 100hp down later I finally killed them. So now after I was casting Heal on myself the party is now no longer gaseous as well as myself ( I ended the gaseous part during the battle) and we were going to have another encounter but time was up for our session and I think it was going to be huge. We had 30mins left but DM wanted to postpone it for another day.

Now the advice I need is should we keep traveling and avoiding encounters to reach our destination? I think we are on some time table to get there or something. Is this going to seriously hurt our XP that we might need when we get to the city? Should we stop when we see something and go back and have the encounter to continue our progression or just ignore it?

Ask your DM about it. This completely depends on the way he built his adventure. Otherwise, use the mighty thing called "Gut Feeling". We can't really help you there....

how are your spells per day faring, the rest of the partys status good? If so, go for it, CoTSQ is a tough adventure even for characters slightly higher than suggested level, so any extra XP you get doesnt hurt. However, dont backtrack, or go to far out of your way to fight... my party bactracked to bash a certain monster, i wont spoil it for you... but we ended up far lower level then we started, few spells, and low on hp, only to be TPKed by a silly random encounter! Also, it is important to finish the adventure at a fairly fast pace, so dont spend to much time resting, or resupply every encounter!

God i love CoTSQ, favorite adventure since the older editions!
