Brakk

I recently ran into a situation in our game this past week and I would like to get the opinion of all that reads this. Again all that answer will recieve great things in their future......those that do not go into Brakks Black Book.

First a breif description of my group:

Cleric- Level 32 (caster Level 35) Besides being a Cleric he is a Divine Diciple, Heriphant, Contemplative, and Gem Mastery?)

Wizard- Level 30 (caster level 32) Besides wizard he is Elemental Master, Arch Mage, Incantratics)

Archerer- Level 10 Fighter, Order of the Bow Initiate, Deep Woods Sniper.

Fighter- Besides levels in fighter he is: Ranger, Tempest, Dervish, just to name some.

Monk- Besides a 20th level monk he is: Tattooed and Dervish

Then there is me, Brakk: I am Fighter 24 and Legendary Dreadnought 6.

This was the situation. We just entered a realm that was goverened over by Drow Preistess who said that if we ever entered he domain again we would not get out alive. Well as fate would have it we have found ourselves back in her domain. We knew what we had to deal with since we have already been there once and one of the traps was a room where ALL magics have been suppressed. So we enter this room and as per the last time we were here the opening behind up was blocked by a Prismatic Wall and a Wall of Force. Now we also know what we were facing and that was at least 6 20th level monks what we did not know was that the Drow Preistess made them all into Vampires as well.

So this is what the post is about. We were about 4-5 rounds into the fight. The cleric was hit and he was able to "feign" his "death" and survive. Meanwhile the other fighter in the group was busy trying to take out one of these monks using dancing and then rageing from Barbarian. The archer was able to get the door on the other side of the room open, the cleric ran for it and started to heal whoever came to him. They heard noise coming down the hallway and he put up a prismatic sphere to keep them out. Meanwhile the Monk, Archer and the other fighter are nickle and dimeing their targets. The other fighter is putting out around 50 points of damage/round while other 2 are doing around 30 points of damage/round combined!! Meanwhile I am being attacked by 4 of these things and because I am weilding a 2 handed axe, and using power attack of 5 to counter their DR 10/silver and magic, I am able to put out around 130+ per round. However I am also taking a around 100 points of damage per round. So after I have dispatched with the last of the Monks on me, with 22 HP left, I turn to face the last of the 6. However the other fighter that was effective at all was killed. He was the closest thing that Brakk has to a "follower" and yes my signature is true I am the God of the Half Orcs!! So seeing that his follower has fallen in battle and that he only has 22 HP left you see my dilema. The cleric is hollering at me to go over to him, get healed then finish him off but the inner struggle is to destroy this creature that has killed his friend. The DM seeing this makes Brakk make a will save (DC 25) of attack. Of course I fail and attack. The cleric, seeing this, says to me "Well I guess you wont be the first for a heal anymore now". So I charge adn with using my Dreadnaught ability to add 20 to any attack roll I use that and Power Attack at a level of 25 then I roll out my damage and barely kill him. It was a 50-50 chance that I would kill him but I did.

Now my question to the masses is this: In the same situation would you have done the same? Would you have risked your life to avenge the death of a fellow member or would you have played it safe and gone to the cleric for healing then return?

Remember I am the God of the Half-Orcs!!

I'm having difficulty even imagining myself in a situation where I'm in a group of lvl 30+ and the God of the Half-Orcs.

I kinda think that that was unfair of your DM (I realize that's not a high save for epic level, but still). Your level 30+, you should have a pretty level head about combat. Still, alls well that ends well.

Hell yeah, I'd have tried to chop the Mofo down ;)

A level 32 cleric isn't going to have any trouble bringing you back to life. Besides, you're a god, you can't REALLY die :D

In defense to the DM....He was always wondering what makes the character. The gear or the character. In this case we know what makes Brakk!!!

I definitely would've charged in and taken down the offending monk, but the Will save seemed way out of line, IMO.

Just to let you all know I will be posting this same question in the Epic Forum as well.

I just had to ask, as you were in a room where all magics were supressed, why was the Vampires (su) damage reduction still working?. I assume that their Energy Drain wasn't working otherwise yout party would be toast.

And at Epic level, where PC's should be fairly switched on to the right tactics, with access to True Ressurection any of my PC's would have got healed first and then killed the enemy unless they were obviously about to permanently destroy my friend.

In the defense to the DM..............

DM=Moron For not checking the book more book more carefully. But I have since then forgiven him cause the encounter was a lot more fun the way that it was done. If it was by the book then........over in 2-3 rounds. Not very fun at all.

Regardless of character levels/powers, all other things being equal, I would have charged in as well. I don't think a Save was required at all, I think this was a RP issue and it was up to you to deal with it. Did you take a very long time trying to decide whether to go to the cleric to get healed or to attack? DM may have asked for Save just as a delay-of-game thing.

I wouldve done the same.... Avenge the fallen comerade!
The Will save is just... ehh, weird, but I wouldve done the same.
Kill the MoFu! Luckily you killed the bastard, otherwise theyd have to ress Mr. Fancy God ;).
Sounds logical to me though....
I once charged a enemy Cleric because he killed my Animal Companion (I was a Druid), and if my luck had been worse, I wouldve died... Thats just Rping out your character.

The two last replies have definatly hit it on the head. The will save was just to speed up the process and to cause a mini conflict between Brakk and the Cleric, who likes to think, that he runs the show. But we all know who really runs the show here. :D

I can't remember what forum I read it on, but the advice is still good; basically, it comes down to:

"Do whatever creates the best drama."

I think attacking him makes the best drama. Retreating and getting healed is more strategic, but attacking definitely IMO creates more drama as the stakes are higher. You'll remember this fight for a long time.

I have recently come to this conclusion.......... The Cleric lacls the warrior mentality part of his brain. So the comprehention of avenging your friends death, no matter what the cost, is not at all present to him.
