| okthulwarlord14405-18-06, 12:41 AM | hey guys i recenlty got back into the game and i just found a group to play with but i cant seem to decide which race to be. i want to be either a half-ogre (savage species) or a warforged . i have the book savage species so i know how a half-ogre works and so far with my test runs i have done extremely well with my half-ogre as my parties main tank. i was also looking at the warforged also. i dont have any books on there adjustments so can you guys tell me the advantages and disadvantages of being a warforged. thanks p.s. sorry about any typing errors |

| TheChilliGod05-18-06, 01:56 AM | Warforged... well, assuming that you already have access to the three or four books that feature warforged (And if you don't, then you should)... ADV —+2 Con helps with HP a lot, as well as for improving fort saves of already-buff'd fighters. —Free armor (and with effective Light Fortification!), which can be improved with but a feat. —Immunity to one HECK of a lot of stuff more than one character normally would. —Maintenance-free, this provides a lot of useful benefits (Such as never needing a high swim check, because you cannot drown, and being the night-watch all through the rest period.) —Auto-stabilization helps a bit if you have no cleric and are lying inactive, and want to avoid bleeding to death (which most people do). —Being a Construct prevents you from being affected by hostile humanoid-only spells like Charm Person. —Free of LA, which is always a happy thing IMO. DIS —-2 Wis & Cha discourages classes that cast w/ those stats somewhat, as well as slightly minimizes the usefulness of a night watch. —You cannot heal naturally. Believe me, this is DOOM if you have no cleric. And even then, clerics are only half as useful. —You must spend a whole feat to get better armor than what is given to you. Sometimes this is an advantage (especially with the cost of other alternatives around), sometimes a disadvantage (especially when you have the spare money, but need every one of your feats) —Being a Construct prevents you from being affected by friendly humanoid-only spells like Enlarge Person (I HATE this disadvantage!). The disadvantages, in my opinion, have some weight over the advantages in circumstances where an Artificer isn't handy to heal and buff you, but otherwise, the warforged is a rather nice pick. |
| xver05-18-06, 02:20 AM | In regards to Warforged healing, the best way to heal as a warforged it to have a mage case a spell from the repair family of spells. They heal you the full ammount. The spells are in the Ebberon book where the Warforged come from in the first place. If the party has a Wizard, you are in good shape. Offer to purchase the spells for the Wizard, it will cost you 100 gp per page (i.e. spell level) for materials plus 50 gp per page for spellbook copying fees, but it's well worth it. He should take you up on the offer, Wizards always love more spells. On the other tentacle, convincing a Sorcerer to learn such spells will be much harder unless she really likes your character. In that case, a wand is a better alternative. Of course, a Wizard can use the wand just as well and you don't have to convince him to prepare repair spells. |
