Dear Community.

I am a player of DM who is very aware of most core rules and a few splat books, playing with a likewise knowledgable DM and four other players who are lacking in the knowledge either by being truely new, or simply not trying.

Yes, this so far seems like it has nothing to do with the title of my thread, but it's just a lead up.

I am considering taking the psionic feat of "scribe tattoo." With it, I will be able to scribe powers onto other players such as: Body Adjustment, Biofeedback and Precognition Offense just to name a few.

However, all of the players are very "look out for numero uno" in regards to how they play, and very seldom to they take hits for others or try to help anyone else with what they're doing. OOC, everyone are good friends but IC they turn into callous badgers of players.

So, two questions.

First, just how helpful over the course of a game is a feat which allows you to make 1st-3rd level self-only powers for others use, at the cost of your own gold and experience. Would it set me back enough in treasure and levels over the game to put me back enough that I become less useful when the minor heals and buffs I can give them become irrelevant?

Second, should I invest a feat that does little but help other players I am with when they don't extend that same consideration? Perhaps it'll help me to make them realize that coming to the aid of others either by loaning them gold for items, making them some kind of potion or just trying to flank in combat would ultimately make their encounters much less harrowing and more enjoyable?

Wee! Anyway, answering the first one is really all I want, but as I thought about it myself, question two popped into my head.

#1) How available is your DM going to make those tatoos? Also, what is your party composition? For istance, the damage reduction given by biofeedback is probably going to help at even relatively high levels for warriors. I know for clerics brew potion is not a bad feat, bull's strength is nice at any level.

#2) How to get group coperation is almost a philosophical question. I would say check their Alignments and see if they are playing them. Then get into quid pro quo. You can make an alliance with a wizard or cleric to give you their item creation stuff if they take the feat. In game just roleplay you think the rest are jerks and aren't getting anything from you till they play nice.

Be Well,
