06-11-07, 05:37 PM I would think you could just talk to your DM and decide on an alignment that best suits your character. If you are LG but your running around killing people at random I am sure that there should be no problem changing your character to a more suitable alignment.

The only thing is if you are playing a class with alignment restrictions you no longer gain the benefits.

Yeah, alignment isn't fixed like race or class (though even those can be changed with the PHB II), it changes based off what the player does. The alignment they pick when they start is just a guideline for how they intend to play, but if they play in a way that fits another alignment, then they change. Simple as that.

The DMG details how to go about alignment changes in general. Basically it is a matter of proving it. If a player wants to change from CN to LG then their character should start acting in a way that is more in line with the new alignment, when the DM feels there has been enough evidence he should begin changing his alignment (usually going through several different alignments on the way).

There is also the atonement spell that can aid with this, and I might suggest a phylactery of faithfulness as well as the character (not necessarily the player though) may not be completely confident in their ability to maintain their new alignment.

Alignment is not what causes you to do things in a certain way, it's how you do things that determine your alignment. A yardstick doesn't MAKE something however long it is, it simply measures. Just like alignment.

06-12-07, 02:18 AM The easy way: Make sure you understand how your DM views the desired alignment, and act that way from now on.

The fast way: Find a cleric of the exact alignment you want and have him cast Atonement on you. This lets you immediately become the same alignment as the caster.

The fast way can backfire though, when you are sent on a quest to "prove" you want to change...

Unless the character has a class that has an alignment restriction (paladin, monk, druid, ranger...) then the player simply changes the alignment on the character sheet and has his character behave according to the new alignment. Characters with alignment restrictions really do the same thing, it's just that their changes in alignment can have repercussions for their continued advancement in that class, or even changing classes (as when a paladin loses his paladinhood entirely).

Note however that extreme changes in alignment are ill-advised and the DM needs to be kept advised of any desire on the part of the PLAYER to change his characters alignment. The DM may have something to say on the subject. Oherwise, again, just change it and play it.

you got it wrong its the dm thats chance the alinment on the sheet.
