I'm DM more often than I am a player, but this is probably better off here.

I need examples of characters (from your games, from novels, films, etc.) that have made alignment shifts.

I know that Han Solo goes from CN to CG, but I don't know the details (I'm more a Trekkie than a SW fan.)

Thanks in advance.

I recently shifted a character, actually ... he was a Swashbuckler, Chaotic Good, but during the course of the game, he was basically being too honest. He was keeping his word even when he could have broken it (and gotten away with it), didn't fight unfairly, and was planning rather than simply acting ... so he went to Neutral Good, because he obviously has an honorable streak.

We had a tiefling psion in the game, who started out CN. Both she and her boyfriend were playing their CNs as mainly Chaotic Stupid (read: evil tendencies because they thought that with CN they could get away with anything without being called "evil").

In time, she simply began to see the value of working with the group. We also had a LG cleric NPC with them. Everybody liked him, so she began to feel bad when he reacted to her more dastardly deeds with dismay. As the player became more comfortable and came to better understand how her character worked, she became less anxious and less frustrated. The relaxed attitude of the player resulted in more cooperation and helpfulness from the character until finally I deemed her plain old Neutral. Plus, we're all friends, and that finally began to translate into the game.

The player agreed to the Neutral shift, and everything was dandy. There's no real story behind that one, though. It was mainly just a gradual attitude change.

I don't know if I would say Han Solo was ever CN. I think he was CG when he started out. He was a rogue, sure, but a good friend who came back to help his buddy in the end. He put on a tough front, but in the end, he did care.

By the end of Jedi, he's NG. He's in the army. He can follow orders and he can give them. He still can improvise and ignore orders or the accepted way, when it suits him. But he's definitely more open to structure.

When bob the happy cleric of tiamat stops blowing up everything and starts sharing the light and giving gifts to the little people, he turns from CE to LG.

I've had two character drifts (sadly enough, both into CN), but examples from our home campaigns probably aren't as useful to Taladel as examples from books or movies. And books are probably a better example. Movies aren't very interested in character development (unless you count "origin story" movies... I recall Batman Begins having a certain amount of character development.)

In Lord of the Rings, my personal opinion (not fact!) is that Aragorn shifts from NG to LG. Smeagol travels from solid NE to a brief, tormented N and then slowly drifts back into his old ways. Boromir's alignment doesn't change (I'd hesitantly call him CG), although he does fail a Will save at one point which causes him to behave at odds with his usual alignment. There are tons of other examples (Pippin and Theoden spring to mind), as well as a few characters who stick to their alignment regardless of the consequences.
