Snytherion 04-01-05, 08:24 AM	hi I am wondering, what would you say the alignment of this elven rogue would be? He was a sniper in the elven army, but because he overlooked a guard, his team was wiped out. Wrecked with grief he left and never returned, unable to face the families of his slain fellows. He keeps fighting for the good of the elven empire, but no longer by the orders of the army but by his own consience. He has no problem killing, but only if it benefits the elven empire. The elven empire is essentially good, but this character does not feel like helping people he doesn't know. what would you say?
Callista 04-01-05, 08:46 AM	Lawful neutral. He's a guy under orders, sometimes from himself and sometimes from the elves. The fact that the orders originate from a Good source should prevent him from doing evil acts just for that purpose... so, LN.
Morka 04-01-05, 08:51 AM	I would say chaotic good. You have your own ideal: the well-being of the elven empire. But you don't want other peoples to tell you what to do.

MrkGrismer 04-01-05, 09:33 AM	Normally chaotic armies are organized more by force of personality then by strict orders of battle. Each 'unit' would have a charismatic leader, possible one whom the others see as a mentor, that the members follow so that they can learn and improve themselves (this is chaotic good, in chaotic neutral or evil it can be so they can get rich, or get ahead at the expense of others). If members get tired of following the leader they might quit that unit and join a different one. So typically a unit of something like 'elven archers' would have a few low-level members that just recently joined, mostly low-mid members who are happily learning the ropes, and a mid-high level member (possibly more then one, who might be friends) serving as the leader and mentor. Although, of course, other forms are possible.
CzarGarrett 04-01-05, 09:55 AM	Since he's fighting for his own conscious rather than the Elves, he feels regret for his mistake, and he tries to help a benevolent governement from outside its laws, I'd say Chaotic Good.
Andrew_980 04-01-05, 12:08 PM	elves don't typically have armies, as they are described in the MM, they are more tribal with the hunters acting as defenders. to make a society that has a regimented army breaks a lot of the free natured life that is atributed to them, making them more NG or even LG unless they lose their love of life, wich would push them more to neutrality. From what you say so far he could eisily be Cg or NG
