Bob the level 1 Fighter

Ok so I found a new group and we used 4d6 drop the lowest in any order for our characters. I have not disided on race or class yet for this reason. I rolled these stats. We start at level 4 so any race with +3 LA or lower is acceptable. What do you people think is the idea race and class for me to take?

Str: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 14
Wis: 14
Cha: 14

Well with these stats... anything you want and that the DM will allow really.

But without a huge LA with those mental stats I'm unwilling to play a caster due to low spell DCs, I origonaly intended on playing one so I dont have any idea right now.

A half-orc barbarian/fighter with monkey grip feat and a large greatsword :)

You could play a Paladin. Paladins tend to like ability scores that are spread out a bit.. You would want a race that adds to charisma and wisdom though. Perhaps Aasimar? They get +2 to each.

Since you wanted a caster why not scrap the whole set of stats and roll till you get a high score of 16+?

That’s assuming you’re not playing iron man and you HAVE to keep those. Assuming that I would go with a rouge/monk combination for a ninja like character. Then take a Githzeri as a level 2 modification turning that 14 dex into a 20 dex from their +6 to dex.

Watch out though, they have enemies, and a smart dm will put an mind flayer or githyanki into your campaign

If you are playing forgotten realms look for lifted multiclass restrictions for the monks of specific monastic orders. You might find one that lifts the multiclassing restrictions of the monk when combined with a rouge, if not you might be able to convince your dm with a detailed character background.

You've got the MA do deal with MAD issue...this screams Monk or Paladin...

Step 1 - Stay away from Wizard, Cleric or Sorcerer.

Step 2 - A druid is do-able. Not ideal, but if you have your heart set on it, it could work.

Step 3 - Monk or Paladin are good choices. If push came to shove, I would say Monk over Paladin.

Step 4 - If it were me, that would so totally be a Bard. Bards are much more MAD than most people think, but at the same time don't need any 1 great score. All 14's is perfect Bard support territory.

Race wise, forget about anything with a LA. It'll hurt you too much. Human is the way to go here. Extra feat and skill points (9 skill points per level is pretty darn sweet), and you have a kick ass Bard.

Monk.
Or rogues, rogues can be very MAD, they use pretty much every stat.
Not a big fan of paladins, but certainly doable as well.

I think that anything except for a single class, primary caster (wizard, sorcerer, druid, cleric, psion, wilder) would be OK. A multiclass of a primary caster would be OK too except for two primary casters. I'd love those stats for a fighter/sorcerer/spellsword.

ONLY playable with those stats: Monk.
Well played with those stats: Bard, Battle Sorcerer (UA), Favored Soul, Paladin.

Could make use out of Hexblade from Complete Warrior, Does grant some bonus feats at 5,10,15,20, that can be put into spell focus, or you could go into benefical spells so DC is not important.

So that you know, Hexblade is more of a arcane version of a paladin, but cannot be good (can be anything else tho).

A Tiefling Wizard would be doable... or a sorcerer, cleric or druid Aasimar.
I'd do a Tiefling Rogue/Monk, I think, with those stats.

Well, i play a cleric with a wisdom of 14 and i`m doing fine. Heck most of my stats are 10 or 12. Still, with those stats you would make a great caster.

Nobody should dismiss a 14 in a stat, its a good stat.

My choices:
1. Monk
2. Paladin
3. Bard

All of these classes benefit from above-average scores in nearly all stats. Monks don't need CHA so much. Bards don't need WIS so much. Paladins aren't dependent on INT, and if they wear heavy armor, don't benefit from DEX above 12/13. But all the other 14's are very useful.

use the Draconic Template from The Draconomicon ... no resistances, but same LA as aasimar/tiefling (+1)

str, con, chr: +2

that'll give you 3 16's and 3 14's ... more (and less) if go with elf/dwarf/halfling/ etc ...

and you get a claws.

Something like a Halfling Rogue could work pretty well with those stats too. Those solid stat bonuses would make you quite competent in whichever skills you chose.

That is so Gnome (Urban) Ranger, it boggles my mind as to how no one has said it.

From the diversity of the answers so far, you could easily be anythin with those stats, but if it was me I would be a human rogue or bard.

Go with a Githzerai monk if you want a funky race. One of the few +2 LA races that I personally think is really worth it. Put your dex up to 20 and Wis up to 16. Plus an extra +4 psycic armor. Plus some spell resistence (not all that much though - but still better than nothing) Plus psycic abilities. Only drawback is -2 to Int and of course the +2 LA.

I agree with Shard of Suzail, tha 14 is fine for a caster.

However, you could play a Grey Elf wizard
(Grey Elves get +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Con, -2 Str I think)

If you have Unearthed Arcana, Elf or Human paragon would also enable you to have a +2 boost to either Int (Elf) or any one ability score (Human) at the cost of 1 caster level (although paragon classes also have other benefits).

I recommend against any race with an LA+2 or higher. The loss of hit points and ranks in skills is hard to make up for, and you'll never make up for the loss of "hit dice". Just wait until the BBEG cast "Blasphemy" and you're 2 or 3 hit dice lower than the rest of the party. Bye-bye! :ghosted:

Monk or Paladin- those are good choices. For the paladin, Aasimar is a reasonable idea. For the Monk- Buomman* from Planar handbook, if you can get it.

*(+2 wis, -2 cha, and La+0, not to mention a few other things)
