| Demetri_Knighthawk04-27-08, 09:03 AM | bit of an odd thought came up last week, if you came upon a party of 4 dwarven clerics, if they all went full denfensive in their platemail, only casting cure spells on each other and taking 5 foot steps. how long do you think they would outlast the players? now that is not the point of the thread but it did lead me to think: if you had to have a group of 4 players all the same class, which ones would survive easiest? I personaly think 4 paladins would be interesting but perhaps short lived. |
| taradusis04-27-08, 09:13 AM | In a city enviroment rogues would do well. Druids in the wilderness. Clerics are probably the best all around characters depending on feat and domain selection. |
| Jalaris04-27-08, 09:53 AM | Definitly 4 Druids. Between them and their animal companions you already have a party of 8 characters. Just send in the animal companions to wreak havoc and let the druids hang back, casting their summoning spells. Suddenly having a battlefield full of animals tearing everything apart sure is nice! |
| runestar04-27-08, 10:06 AM | 4 casters would probably have the easiest time. For example, 4 wizards, each with a different area of expertise, should be able to fill out all the traditional roles quite well. One could be a summoner - taking on the tank and trap-springer responsibilities. Another would be battlefield controller (ideally 2 for sheer overkill), and the last maybe for utility/support? Take reserve feats, focused specialization and use item creation judiciously so you have more than ample firepower to last through any dungeon. |
| goram_browncoat04-27-08, 10:29 AM | Do they have to all have 20 levels of the same class? Or are they allowed to multiclass/prc differently? I think druids would probably do best since theyre all full casterswith melee capability to back it up and extra party members in their companions. If different multiclassing is allowed, you could add a ninja1/druid19 with able learner to be the rogue. Also the guy that takes care of the tanking could do with a one or two level dip into monk. All cleric would also work for similar reasons (full casters with melee ability). Especially if one or more of them goes for the necromancy thing. Vastly less powerfull (and probably not viable) but just amusing would be the all-straight-bard party. Singing/playing their way through dungeons. With multiclassing allowed however, i think it even becomes viable. A bardadin, a wablade bard, a crusader bard and a sublime chord could probably do quite well. |

| kelvinaw27304-27-08, 06:02 PM | There was a competition game once held where all the PCs were paladins, who had to escape from a stronghold ... to begin with they had to escape the giant cage they were in. The door was open but ... 1st Paladin: "After you, please." 2nd Paladin: "Oh no, after you good sir." 3rd Paladin: "I pray thee, sir, please go first." 4th Paladin: "Oh I couldn't possibly - you go first." 1st: Paladin: "There may be danger, I couldn't possibly deprive you of the honour. Do go first, old chap." etc. |
| CrimsonDeath04-27-08, 06:37 PM | Cleric might be slightly more viable-- the Kobold domain grants Trapfinding. But Druids are tough enough and versatile enough that they could probably survive any trap they sprung. The only real reason for a Druid to dip into Monk is for Improved Grapple. You can get the AC bonus from a Monk's Belt with a Wildling Clasp. Not that you really need it, between Wild Shape and the Animal Companion. |

Bwah, for a melee focussed druid you get imp grapple, imp unarmed and flurry as well for flurry + secondary natural attacks while wildshaped. Monk 2 gets you evasion if you're willing to go that far, though most probably wouldnt and rightly so. But youre right, wildling clasps have mostly invalidated the monk/ninja dip except for VoP druids. |

After one fight, 4 1st level wizards are as good as 4 commoners! :P But at least, depending on their animal companions, the cat is on their side! :D |

Somehow I doubt a party of all bards would be straight... :D **reaches for the brain bleach as he tries to get visions of transvestite show-tune-singing swashbuckling bards out of his head** |

| Shadowshimmer04-29-08, 07:33 AM | How about a party of Ninja? You could go on secret missions, tracking quarry, performing assassinations. That would be really cool and seems like a possibilities. |
| narack04-29-08, 08:13 AM | 4 druids would be particularly devastating. |
| YamiShinobi04-29-08, 07:49 PM | How about a party of Ninja? You could go on secret missions, tracking quarry, performing assassinations. That would be really cool and seems like a possibilities. you could do the same with 4 rogues, and they can flank too. and they would have more ac. armor interferes with wis mod. before th ninja class was made, it was a tree of skills/feats for the rogue. a ninja could be anyone stealthy. heck a ranger could be a ninja. ninjutsu is the art of stealth. with or without fancy ki powers, jutsus, or spells, and stealth isn't a talent of an adventuring party. what if one rogue rolls a 1 on move silently giving the other rogues away. |
| Tunllaw04-30-08, 06:19 AM | Dwarven defenders gogogogogogogogo |
| zeratulcraft04-30-08, 06:33 AM | Dwarven defenders gogogogogogogogo Archery crits Dwarvern Defender for over 9000. |
| Kerelis04-30-08, 09:13 AM | I've always wanted to play an all-wizard campaign, with each player specialized in a different field. I've also always wanted to play an all-bard campaign, with everyone as part of a traveling carnival/bard troupe. But I can never get anyone to do it. We always have one or more people who just don't want to play a caster or a bard. |
| Selgard04-30-08, 10:08 AM | I'm not sure about the overall "power level" due to having no casters, but a full on rogue group would be fairly interesting. It'd be like playing Thief, but in a group. Each person could excel in stealth, and pick a few other areas to be *great* at. You could easily have the Face man, the melee guy, the trapper, and the UMD, each with different stats and such. would be interesting- at least for abit. -S |
| CrimsonDeath04-30-08, 11:49 AM | Dwarven defenders gogogogogogogogo More like Dwarven Defenders staystaystaystaystay... |
| Shadowshimmer04-30-08, 02:38 PM | How about a party of Kender Rogues? That would be very chaotic but interesting. Could any force in the universe stand up to a party of Kender Rogues? |
| CrimsonDeath04-30-08, 03:02 PM | A Great Wyrm Red Dragon? |
| TheEndIsNear04-30-08, 03:23 PM | DRAGON SHAMAN! :P lolz jk:P I'd say: 1.Druid 2.Cleric 3.Wizards (ok you take these spells i take these he takes these... now everyone show everynoe ur spells:P:D!) could be fun:p I'd love to try... same dungeoneach party try:P different times but same level D-End |
| Zillah04-30-08, 05:07 PM | i would totally say 4 droods... they would all split up the assignments. 1 full healer, 1/2 healer 1/2 field control, 1 full buffer thats all about the melee, 1/2 field control 1/2 offensive spells. yea, your gonna have a hard time killin this. all have wildshape, all have different(or the same) animal companions(fleshrakers!) lol. G effin G |
| Johnathan_Vagabond05-01-08, 09:47 AM | I think four warlocks could have a good time. 4 Eldritch Blasts 4 Vitrolic Blasts 4 Vitrolic Cones 4 Utterdark Cones |
| Auspex705-01-08, 01:59 PM | 4 clerics. spontaneous summoner, augment summoning... reach spell... extend spell... i'm no optimization expert or anything, but that sort of group of clerics building towards cleric/thaumaturgists would be pretty entertaining, and probably capable of causing some problems. |
| Shinikama05-01-08, 02:25 PM | I know what'd be fun. 4 dread necromancers. Yay skeletons! |
| CrimsonDeath05-01-08, 02:45 PM | The problem with an all-same-class party is the lack of versatility. You don't want to compound that problem by giving them all the same build. One summoner is fine. You probably want one geared for trapfinding, one for melee, and one for crowd control in addition to that. (You don't really need one built for healing because they're all Clerics. They have plenty of healing.) |
| JasonOrlandoHawk05-01-08, 05:11 PM | When I run gestalt games, I always include an interesting twist on this idea (though a bit broader than mentioned here). One half of each character's gestalt levels must be in a [insert concept here] class. The best result was the "Cleric's Game." The "Arcane Game" fell apart too quickly, for reasons I have not fully divined yet. I'm waiting for a chance to run the "Warrior's Game." |
| Roguewiz05-01-08, 05:15 PM | 4 Clerics would be the best "single class" group. Clerics have offensive, defensive, buffs, debuffs, and healing spells. They might lack # of feats a Fighter has, or all the abilities Rangers/Rogue has, but they make up for that in their spells. With 4 clerics, you can cover at least a Nuker, a "Tank", and a Healer (all dependant on feat/spells/domain). |
| Chaucer05-01-08, 06:17 PM | If you are willing to take up the prestige class, I think you should delve into the assassin. While the rogue is great, the assassin allows poison use and the death attack. To take out 4 enemies instantly in 3 rounds is nice, or even subduing them all. You'd have to go evil and all, but just to put the idea out there. |
| Zillah05-01-08, 09:09 PM | i still think 4 druids > 4 clerics. i feel they just are more versatile. |
| CrimsonDeath05-02-08, 10:21 PM | Domains add a lot of versatility to Clerics. Especially if you go outside Core. |
| kelvinaw27305-03-08, 01:11 PM | Somehow I doubt a party of all bards would be straight... :D **reaches for the brain bleach as he tries to get visions of transvestite show-tune-singing swashbuckling bards out of his head** Not necessarily a bad thing ... male or female bards? Both?:thinks: |
