I'm playing a PbP game where I fight increasing levels of Summon monsters/undead/nature's ally. I'm a level 3 druid With the follwing stats:

10 str
14 dex
12 con
10 int
18 wis
10 charisma

and i'm carrying:
Leather armor
wooden shield
Club
Sling
Dagger

My feats are:
Spellfocus/Augment summoning
Improved Initiatve.

Now, i've used 2 of my level 1 spells, and both of my level 2 spells. I have one level 1 spell left and that is shillelagh. I also haven't used any of my level 0 spells.

I got through the first 3 encounters (Skeleton, Giant Bee, Dire Weasel) without a scratch, so i take on the fourth one. 3 Hell Hounds Appear. I have 2 augmented Wolves that will expire next turn (within charging distance) and i've just summoned 3 augmented Wolves to help me out (can be summoned into charging distance).

I have one more level 1 spell, and that is shillelagh. Should I call for backup and cast one more wolf, or should i enchant my club and run in swinging? Or am i pretty much screwed? I also have a wolf animal companion. So, can a druid with 6 wolves and a shillelagh/7 wolves and a stick beat 3 hellhounds? or does the future look bleak for my character?

Honestly, this doesn't look good for you (especially if you're alone). If retreating isn't out of the question, I'ld do so right NOW and leave the wolves to hold off the hounds (although the Hell Hounds may track you down once they finish with the wolves).

On the other hand, if you don't think you can make it running away, you might as well try your luck, cast shillelagh, and join the fray.

Hellhound got seriously nerfed in 3.5. You might try to take them out. But ultimately, with Augmented summoning, you should probably summon more allies to deal with them. Either way you will probably have to get a few swings in there anyway. Kind of a tough call, but I think they are defeatable(the hell hounds) no matter which you choose. But might as well use your summoning ability since it is your best defense and offense in this situation.

Congratulations on your victory. I also enjoyed reading to write-up. You have now just tasted the awesome power that Druids have in their arsenal. IMO, Druids ...not clerics are the most powerful class in 3.X edition. After you have Natural spell and are summoning 4th level allies is when they really become nasty(Dire apes!). Good luck in the future.

We will have to agree to disagree. The game I DM, the party is 17th lvl and the druid constantly complains about not having restoration...thats just the tip of the ice berg. However his celestial dire bear form and now elemental form will more than make up for it.
