Am I spreading myself too thin? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-19-04, 01:47 PM Beginning a new urban campaign with all that big city goodness and I have decided to try something I haven't done a lot of in the past. *gasp* Multiclass. I've usually played a character from level 1 to 20, but now I want some variety. This is what I have rolled so far.

Human Male

Str - 12
Dex - 15
Con - 14
Int - 16
Wis - 10
Cha - 12

*All ability score increases will go into Dexterity

My plan for advancement is Rog3/Wiz5 before taking five levels as an Arcane Trickster and then finishing off the final levels as a Duelist. This would create the finesse fighting, skills, and utility magic I'm looking for. I was tied of playing my level 20 wizard when we were in a social setting or my spells had run out. I want a character that has versatility and multiple options.

The problem I am facing is... am I going to be weak? This is an RPing driven campaign, but we have some heavy fighting I am told. I don't expect to be uber or anything, but I would like to know I'm not going to be holding the group back. Anyone with stories about mutliclass character and how to find their sublte streangths would be welcome.

Above all, I am going to have fun, but I would like to be affective too. Right now, I am just asking myself, "What's a player to do?"

01-19-04, 02:41 PM The Arcane Trickster is a little on the weak side mechanically. Its designed more for a Wizard dabbling in Rogue than it is a Rogue dabbling in Wizard, and primary casters should never multiclass into something that doesn't increase their casting, as it will seriously hamper their casting ability.

As long as its a more RP heav campaign though, it shouldn't really matter, just have fun with it! :D

01-20-04, 05:31 PM I know I'm not going to be the primary caster. I am using spells for utility to augment my other abilities. This set up with give me a caster level of ten, good skill choice, and a BAB of +13/8/3. I'm just concerned that those abilities will be too deluted by the time I get to level 20.

01-20-04, 05:38 PM I can't believe the whole concept of the character is to be a swiss army knife of sorts. A possibility for every occassion. *sighs* Maybe I should have mentioned that first. Duh.
