Here's the long and the short of it, my character has a low tolerance policy and the DM thinks its affecting the game to a bad degree. As an example ill give you the last week's session events.

We got catured by orcs and they but us all in this pit to kill each other as well as some other random npc's as well as a few gaurds that got bored and desided to come into the fight as well. (BTW we are a lvl 3 Elf Druid, lvl 2 Human Cleric, lvl 1 Knoll, not sure of spelling, Rouge, and me the lvl 3 Gnome Barbarian =D).

Now durring the fight the cleric who is the DM's DMPC desides that death is bad and starts healing the people that are taking damage, problem being that he is healing the guy that im currently in combat with, since he desided to kill me (I didnt provoke him).

After that was said and done the other gaurds that didnt jump into the pit like morons opened the gate that had 5 purple lion like creatures which attacked us (too much of the gladiador movie?) and we killed 2 but then they went back for some reason and then got tangled up in the orcs fighting the humans from the town that were sent to raid this place, however we dont know this yet since we are still in the arena.

Being VERY low on hp for all of us (ty Mr. Cleric for those heals ><) we talk it out and deside to wait in the ring for somthing to happen in our favor or at least know more about the situation before advancing towards the exit, which is where the lions went.

Then the rouge out of the blue desides to pick pocket me while im looking right at him, he succedes in getting all of my 37s before I turn around and crit him for 24 damage droping him instantly, he wasnt happy.

Here is where my question comes up though, before i rolled for attacking him I added his name to my "list" of people that i need to deal with. On that list are various NPC's as well as the Cleric, and for a short time the Rouge. (There is a wizard in our group wasnt in the pit with us but he is on the list as well for varous reasons).

So in short they think i need to stop placing PC's on my list but my point of view is that I think they should stop pulling this stuff.

Ok guys, post your thoughts, anything is good.

(It occured to me i should say what the wizard did, in short he swore that he would kill me for giving away 5 platium to the people who saved our lives in a past ordeal, my character didnt even know it was his blah blah blah, and then he almost "accidentily did me in with giant worm thing"=P)

1. What's your alignment?

2. Why did the Rogue pickpocket you?

3. Why is the DMPC healing people you are fighting?

4. How did you come into possession of the wizard's platinum, and why does he consider you worthy of death for giving it away to people who saved your life?

5. What is the alignment of the wizard and the rogue?

I'm gonna have to side with you one this one. Everyone has to play his character. And if a character has habits that may end up provoking someone else to kill them, that's just the way of it. I have nothing against party conflict. You pick the half-ogre goliath's pocket, you can expect to have your head handed to you.

DMPCs are baaad.

I kill 'em on sight. Along with bizarre +2/-2 gadget elves and paladins.

Seriously, though, this is a conflcit of gaming style problem. If everyone is having fun but you, it is you who needs to get it in gear or get out.

If everyone agrees that this is not a good situation, talk to the DM. Explain that his DMPC is (shock and amaze) ******* off the players.

Also, two things:

This is was your DMs faut; The rogue was bored because the party lacked direction and the pace of the game was too slow. You, however, catalyzed this catastrophe by knee-jerking and killing the rogue who, like you, is suffering through this DM.

Your list is blatantly anti-party. Knock that **** off, it is only going to breed inter-party conflcit and generally muck up any chance of getting this thing back on track.

Now it is kinda' sorta' your fault, too.

In closin':

Talk to your DM and your friends to set the game up in such a manner as to induce less infighting and speed up the game play. Ask your DM to get that DMPC the hell outa' the game, 'cause not only does he not have the ability to run that character as a member of the party, but he doesn't have his pace figured out yet and he doesn't need the added distraction.

1. I am Choatic Good, i try to improve the lives of the people i meet but if there are those that will conflict with this i have no problem of taking them out for common good.

2. He pickpocketed me for my money, which by the look on his face he thought i had more for some reason, other than that idk why he did it.

3. My guess is that the fight wasnt as even as he thought it was, in character he said it was to "avoid un-needed death" and i think he is neutral good

4. We got ambused by desert raiders and they took everything, when we got to where they put all the captives stuff (they were into a slave bussiness, needed live people) I went to the pile of money first and took a first full of the more valuable coins which included some of what the Wizard thought was his money, my character didnt know anything about it but he got that from saving a town by killing at high oger cheif guy single handedly by rolling 3 20's in a row for his scourcing ray, so i guess it had other personal vaule to it.

Oh and he didnt get a chance to state his case since once another guy grabed his weapon this sand thing came into the room, after killing that we emiditaly got rescued from the compound form this group of people and since I have no real use of it as a barbarian I gave what i picked up to the people helping us as a gesture of good will. (then the wiz got :hoppingma )

5. Wizard is Choatic Good also i believe and the rouge is Neutral if i am remembering right.

Everyone likes it untill I kill one of them finally. :weep:

The DMPC was never really a problem, it was just this time and I still dont know if it even made sence in his head when he thought it out let alone when he said what the cleric was doing.

Problem is we are still in the phase where we change off as DM's (im still working on my world, about 40% done), so they dont want to be short changed on the action/exp. Yes i know there are ways around that but like i said, wasnt a problem until today.

Although if it comes down to it, he has to sleep some time :schemes:

Chaotic Good Characters do not kill wantonly. They certainly do not attack and deal massive amounts of damage to their allies. I would understand if you had knocked the stuffing out of the thief for taking your coins, but did you need to swing your axe? Making a list of people to deal with is fine and good, as long as they are NPCs. Putting your friends' characters on a list to cause problems for is simply uncalled for. The only thing that will serve to do is propogate anger amongst the players.
On the other hand, I have no idea what your team mates did to deserve their names being added to your list, thus I cannot compose a solid judgement. As a whole, I would say that you actions are indeed disruptive and counter-productive to the game. But, hey, if you want to cause problems for your DM and friends (something I see no logic in, unless you are looking to be cut from the game) keep it up.

Take care, friend.

It's just not realistic, you don't kill your Rogue for trying to pick-pocket you. But at the same time, I'm so sick of Rogue's that have no idea how to play in a party. I mean c'mon, you have a set of skills....you don't see fighter's hitting anything they see just cause they can.

PVP does suck. But if any fellow player tried to pick pocket me there would be hell to play.

Lists are stupid. Get rid of it. At least in so far as dealing with other players/characters

DMPCs suck. Lobby/petition to get rid of that too.

The wizard, or his player, needs to be hit with the corner of both the DMG and PHB. Threatening to kill you cus you gave away 5 pp? Ridiculous. Especially since it was to someone who helped you. Ridiculous.

Seriously though, picking party pockets is just not smart business.

Here is how the rouge went

Rouge: "I pickpocket him, rolls, 17"

GM: Roll for spot

Me: 18 (or somthing, i forget actually # but he got my silver and i saw him do it)

Me: Um...ok...wtf...I punch you in the head

Rouge: Fine "rolls"

Me: What are you rolling for?

Rouge: Initative

Me:....rolls, (i win intiative).ok i guess I hit you with my Ax then

I should have elaborated on that early on, rouge jumped the gun on a fight so i just went with it. If i would have thought out the possibility of killing him in one hit i would have probobly not done it (i is so smart like that?) but i figured I'd render him unconcence and then stablize him, then we would deal with it later, but i rolled a 20 and an 8 for damage (x3).
Ack

Even then you should have gone (when the rogue rolled for init) "Okay, out of character, is this going to be lethal or non-lethal combat?" And played it the way the rogue wants to play it. Lethal, sure, bring out the axe. Non-lethal, get that Brawling feat online :D

I see. Well, it is obvious that the rogue propogated the fight. However, though I understand the want to teach a sneaky little thief a lesson for putting his hand in the wrong pocket, it would have been slighlty less troublesome to the game if you had simply used the flat of your lovely axe to knock the filching spirit out of the little bugger. By the way, why on earth did the thief decide to snatch your goods? Are you and your party members always at one another's throats? Or was this an isolated incident?

Take care, friend.

Ok, I will wholy admit that i could have handled that situation better, non leathal damage/blunt side of ax/fists/talking to him out of game would have been a wiser solution than choping him in 1/2.

Honestly im going to have to agree with the person that said rouges dont know when to use or how to use their skills, elaborating on that alittle i think he may have been bored (3 hours and not one lock to pick = ZOMG in his mind?) but thats just my guess.

We are normaly going at each other but it has never turned out as....whats the wording im looking for....bloody, as it did this time, im a little worried it might excelate.

As for the advice on people regarding the list, its really there only so that I can play my character effectivly. We get together only once a week so I cant remember everything that goes on, the list itself also contains who im on good terms with, who im nuetral with, and other various notes like npc/town situations. HOWEVER, looking back it most likely was a bad idea to take out the list once i killed the rouge, and slowly cross out his name while saying "This is why you dont pickpocket me....".

On the plus side i dont think he will do it again.

Sounds like you all need a little more maturity. You for PKing, the Rogue for party-theiving, and the DM for running a DMPC (since he is running the healer, he may get a pass for this).

Why do not you guys all sit down, read this thread and talk things over?

What a cluster of a game. You dont need badguys, just your DMPC and the other players seem to work just fine for that.

Bring the following documents to your next gaming session and fill them out with your group. It will vastly improve your game.

Evaluation (http://www.griffith.edu.au/centre/gihe/griffith_graduate/toolkit/teamwork/hand04.htm)
Self Assessment (http://www.griffith.edu.au/centre/gihe/griffith_graduate/toolkit/teamwork/hand07.htm)
Team Debriefing (http://www.griffith.edu.au/centre/gihe/griffith_graduate/toolkit/teamwork/hand06.htm)

Also "Rouge" is a kind of makeup. The character class is named "Rogue".

Hmm.

I can kind of see what your DMPC was trying to do (act IC, try to forge alliances with non-party characters to effect a better escape), but he made a hash of explaining it, clearly.

The rogue was asking for it.

But the general rule that all three of you ignored is this:

Thou shalt not dis the person that watcheth thy back!

Or in other words, the party has to stick together no matter what. No grudges, no pick-pocketing, no doing anything that makes their life harder.
Comus

What I think you should do is, in character, tell the people in your party that you don't trust party members X and Y (however many people are on the 'list'), tell them why you don't trust them, and then give the other members of the party a choice - come with you, and try to find some people that you can trust to watch your back to replace the problem members, or stay with them, and you'll go on your seperate way.

Really, that's the best option for a Good character - don't just kill them, but don't stay around someone that you can't trust, either.

Now, probably, the other party members (and probably the DM) are going to try and get you to stay, or tell you you're being disruptive and breaking the party apart. You just try and get the message across that your character isn't going to go into dangerous situations with people he doesn't feel he can trust, and that you as a player think that unless you can all work together, the characters are going to end up dead at the bottom of some dungeon, their hands at each others throats.

Honestly you probably did over react, but what should have been the reaction probably was just as bad for the character. You probably should have knocked out the rogue and taken him whenever possible to jail.

Still your party members seem to want to place blame on you when the entire episode is the rogues fault.

I really want to comment on this:

It occured to me i should say what the wizard did, in short he swore that he would kill me for giving away 5 platium to the people who saved our lives in a past ordeal, my character didnt even know it was his blah blah blah, and then he almost "accidentily did me in with giant worm thing"=P

So let me get this straight, the wizard can basically have a list but you can't? He can threaten that he will kill you because you gave away some money that you found that may or might not have been owned by him at some point to the people that saved you. Something the wizard should have been happy and willing to reward. PC's always expect rewards for saving others, why shouldn't they do the same.

But you, someone who was actually robbed in the open, gets in trouble for just going through what the wizard plans on doing?

Your friend is a hypocrite.
BlackWeasel

05-08-07, 03:13 AM
I think it was mostly the rogue's fault, sure you did overeact but if i was in your situation i probably would have done the same. The wizard on the other hand seems like a jerk.
And now my next character is going to be a barbarian who writes a grudge list in his own blood.

Rogue. Gnoll. decided. Get firefox, the new version has a spellchecker, underlines misspellings in red just like Word.

As for the "game", if you can call it that, quit taking down names; it just screams "I will become a problem player". Also, have your DM plan out something a little more engaging than wave after wave of enemies. Neverending combat is for MMOs, not RPGs.

I don't think the spell checker is going to help with rouge/rogue, but you have a point. It's a shame the board doesn't have a built in spell checker when you post like a lot of sites do these days, but it's more of a shame that nobody knows how to spell anymore. Poor english... what have we done to you? :weep:
