| Endarrion10-08-06, 08:39 PM | So I'm thinking of getting an amulet of health (+4) for my char. My question is, what exactly does this effect? I know it effects Fort saves and Con based skills, but what about HP? Thanks. |
| Paxar10-08-06, 08:43 PM | The amulet gives an enhancement bonus to constitution. So, anything constitution effects (like HP) is going to be effected. For a con bonus of +4, you'll get +2 HP for every hit die your character has. |
| Endarrion10-08-06, 08:48 PM | So that's EVERY hit die. Including ones I had before I got the amulet? So if I get the amulet at level 10, and have 10 hit dice, that's 20 hitpoints as soon as I put it on. So then do I get the same two extra hp at every additional level? Or do I get HP equal to my newly improved Con score? I feel dumb. I've been playing 3.5 since it came out and I don't know this stuff... EDIT: Wow. I AM dumb. At each additional level 2 extra HP in addition to my old score or HP equal to my new score are the same. Sharp as a marble. |
| Torp10-08-06, 08:56 PM | Yes, you get 2 extra HP per level as you level up as well, but you'll lose them if you remove the amulet. That goes for all the HP gained from the amulet. |
| PsychicKid10-09-06, 09:13 AM | So make sure you don't lose it! *The Orc hits you, nailing you down to 5 HP* DM: Okay, the orcs have you all surrounded. You: We should surrender for now, if we fight back, we'll be killed. DM: Surrendering huh? Okay, they approach, and start confiscating your equipment. You: Did they take my Amulet of Health? DM: It looks shiny, so yes. You: But that'll bring my HP down to *falls over and dies once the Amulet is taken off* Somehow I can see that happening. |

Damage is taken from bonus hp first, unless other wise stated. If his necklace were removed his max HP would drop, his current hp would only drop if his HP exceeded his new maxximum hitpoints. |

Hp from a con boost is not the same as temp hp(as much as I feel it should be). I suggest you reread the section on barb rage...;) |

| Paxar10-09-06, 02:25 PM | PHB pg. 146 An increase in a character's Constitution score, even a temporary one, can give her more hit points (an effective hit point increase), but these are not temporary hit points. |
| Tempest Stormwind10-09-06, 03:10 PM | Barb rages work differently from hp gained by magical means, I'll give you a page when I get home later today. Only in terms of source. +4 to Con is +4 to Con. Look at the reverse. How would taking 4 points of Con damage feel? Your HP -- current AND max -- would decrease by 2hp per HD. |
| Magus Gar Kan10-10-06, 01:35 PM | They specify in one of the sage advice columns that a Brb rage does not end when he falls unconcious. However when the rage time runs down his HP drops accordingly. This means that most likely he will go *pop* when the amulate is removed. |
