| AlGhoul01-13-04, 09:06 PM | im gonna be starting in a campaign and im gonna have almost 10 or so players (not sure exactly how much tho)....yea i kno, real big. i kno that some of the people have already chosen wat they were gonna be in terms of class....not so sure about race. we are gonna have a straight rogue, barbarian, samurai (fighter basically), druid, ranger, and a cleric. those i kno for sure....sorta. i kinda wanna be a dwarven fighter that does a bit more damage in the group (so that i can still be useful) except maybe for the barb...rage and all. i need something that will make me stand out even at early levels but isnt all about killing and being the center...i guess im askin for some useful "flavor" to my char. any help would be nice. all sugestions welcome. please keep it around this: Dwarf CN or LN (wanting more to CN) Fighter/maybe something else "FLAVOR" and probably a reasonable way to have a better damaging dwarven waraxe to start off with.....heritage or something thnx in advance even if nothing comes up... |

You'd still get all martial weapons and armors, but you'd be the "leader" of the group during any battles or combats. With auras the bigger the party the better. You help the group do more damage and can basically count any extra as your own damage. The best part is that the martial is free. You don't have to buy the book, just look on the wizards of the coast sight. Could actually be very cool. Picture a grouchy dwarf waving his Urgosh over his head and leading his party in a charge. He stabs an orc in the gut, cleaves another with the axe end, and barks out a few more "orders" to his teammates. "We need flankers on the right you stupid pointy eared longlegs." The Cowdragon :mage: P.S. Remember, you can fight and activate auras at the same time. |

Have yet to see anything the players can get from that book thats balanced (except the catfolk monster race, the book's only saving grace). Sounds like you're going to be a little weak in the arcane casting department. Perhaps you should try a themed Sorcerer? Take a sorcerer and focus all their spells into a theme, like fire, storms, earth, cold, etc, and give them a personality to match. A hotheaded pyro, a cold distant logical cryomancer, or a storm sorcerer with a temper that can go from nice and mild to fierce and destructive in the blink of an eye. Or, go the other route and be a backup character. A bard with a crossbow that buffs the party from the back row. Or you can go for the Cleric Archer build and be both a monster of an archer and still retain 100% of your divine spellcasting abilities. Or if you have access to the Dragonlance Campaign Setting, take a look at The Mystic. Its a Sorcerer-like Cleric class that, unlike the Miniature's Handbook uber-cheese Favored Soul, is actually balanced for tabletop pen & paper play. But really, you'll probably need to find a niche that isn't already being filled. From what you said, it sounds like the party is going to be pretty well off on front line fighters and tanks, so you should probably find some sort of indirect combat or ranged combat or you know, anything other than "just another meleer". |
