| creeder_0302-10-06, 01:02 PM | My party and I have run afoul of a group of expert assassins. What would be the moral consequences of hiring a group of assassins to take on our enemies? |
| High Octane02-10-06, 01:04 PM | You're assassins! Since when do morals have anything to do with it? |
| rykit02-10-06, 01:30 PM | You're assassins! Since when do morals have anything to do with it? Umh he said they ran a foul a group of assassins, not that they were a foul group of assassins. As to his question, to be an assassin you need to be an evil character. Paying an evil character to carry out an evil deed...well what do you think. Could I write the word evil in there a few more times. Rykit |

If the latter, I don't think you'll have much luck getting the assassins of your tail no matter what you try. Focus instead on the goal that the assassins were hired to prevent you from accomplishing. If the former, is having the PCs hire assassins to get other assassins off their back really the best solution? I'm imagining that before the moral consequences of such an action could ever develop, the assassins you've hired would betray you for their own profit (unless you get hold of some of those people who have a reputation to mind). If the assassins must be dealt with, consider planning a trap with the party as bait. Pick a spot to hole up and then go paranoid in picking out and trapping avenues of approach (rooftops, sniping positions in adjacent buildings, underground access tunnels) and watching the neighborhood for iregularities (if the assassins come in disguise). This will probably not prevent direct confrontation if the DM is set on that, but it will seriously cramp the ., not to mention making for a spectacular fight. |
| Hodo02-10-06, 01:56 PM | Paying another group of assassins to kill assassins already trying to kill you? I would say depends on circumstance and motivation. If they're doing it because they want to take out the other evil assassins (and ONLY those assassins) and are only paying the other assassins to do it for them, then I MIGHT consider it good. If they're doing it becuase for whatever reasons they dont want to face the assassins themselves, or they simply think the assassins could do a better job without too much fuss, I'd deem it neutral. If they're doing it because they just plain don't like the assassins, and/or want to see them suffer, then I'd consider it evil. Giving the players the benefit of the doubt, I think they're personally worried about facing assassins themselves and would rather get on with whatever they were doing before, and let someone else handle the problem. So they're paying assassins, assured that they will take out their hunters (and only them). Based on the above assumption (which may or may not be correct) I'd say it's neutral. |
| Ared Du'kel02-10-06, 02:27 PM | If you are worried about the moral implications of hiring assassins, why not just hire more muscle? A few bodyguards would do wonders for the group in dealing with the assassins. And, since bruisers don't have to be evil, you no longer have a moral dilemma, so long as you choose the right people. Just a thought. As for hiring assassins, I'd usually deem that an evil act. But, that's just my preference. |
| JimRuh02-10-06, 02:27 PM | if assasins are out to get you, the best thign to do is not get other assasins, but goodly folk like rangers and paladins, who will do it simply on priciple. A rogue's worst nightmare is a ranger. Who can hide almost as well as them but can spot them faster. Find elven rangers and you're safe as can be. Or just pay them more money than their contract. Its all business |
| CaoSlayer02-11-06, 09:39 AM | pay better a group of paladins, they ever can charge you nothing for the task. |
| High Octane02-12-06, 01:43 AM | I dont see any serious violation going on. Although its in view of the line, its not very close to crossing it. Its not a good act to associate with assassins, but in a case of life or death where you have no other alternatives, its a settling on the lesser of 2 evils. |
