GrumpyWizard 01-20-06, 03:25 PM	I was reading the "Chick Gamers" thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=566368&page=1&pp=30), and it struck me that there were a lot of people saying they were introduced to the game by their spouses/fiancés (former friends). This got me thinking. I had, uptil now, always cosidered D&D as something only played by younger people (save perhaps a few real addicts), and that once one got settled, the D&D'ing would be over. (A very unnerving thought actually...) Well anyway, I was surprised to find so many married people on these boards. Maybe it's just because I live in the Netherlands, where the game is relatively new, so that 25+ people just didn't have the opportunity to get involved when they were younger. So now the real question: what is YOUR age? At what age did you start? How have you managed to hold on to it while getting older/leaving education to get a job? (And as you are now probably all wondering what my age is: I'm 20. I started playing about 2 years ago.)
fuzzypants 01-20-06, 03:33 PM	I started roleplaying online at 13. I played online until last August when I began TTing. I've been playing D&D for a few months. I'm 22.
Herald of Jupiter 01-20-06, 03:38 PM	I was introduced to roleplaying in general almost two years ago, playing a game of Delta Green. D&D was introduced into my life one and a half year ago, and now I'm a full-time DM and player (I even started DM'ing without owning the PHB...dunno how I managed to survive that...). I'm 17 years old, 18 in april.

WhylniaPendragon 01-20-06, 04:22 PM	I met my future husband about 5 years, 3 months ago. I was playing a game not unlike D&D on a private server, as well as working as an IRCop, there. After I moved up here, he started showing me how to play D&D and we started playing with his best friend. I was 28 when I met him, and am now 33. I'm totally addicted to D&D and wish I could have started playing/DMing sooner. I love it! ;)

I'm going to be 27 on Monday; as mentioned in the chick gamer thread, I'm married, and I have a daughter. I hated 2nd Ed. when I tried it and didn't start up again until around the release of 3.5. I started gaming with West End Games' Star Wars, Second Edition, moved to some White Wolf and a couple other things and lately there's been a D&D focus.

I am now 28. i Love that these new players are around but wish, wish they would use a little more restriant with all the muli class characters. I know a uber build is fun now and again. But come on 3-5 different classes. :confused:
solbergb 01-20-06, 07:55 PM	I started in middle-school, am now approaching 40. My wife (mid-30s) started gaming in her mid-teens, but didn't play D&D until the mid-90s when I ran a retro-1st edition game of Temple of Elemental Evil. I stopped playing from mid-80s (got diverted by Hero Games, Amber, Feng Shui and others) and except for the retro-1st ed games in the mid 90s didn't start again until 3rd edition came out. Frankly it is harder to game as an adult - all of my gaming buddies look back at our college years as the golden age, where we were all close together and had flexible schedules (we worked hard, but we could all temporarily blow stuff off to game...none of this "I have to work fixed hours every day" or "I have family now" stuff that gets in the way later :)) Scheduling just gets more and more complicated. This is one reason I do a lot of RPGA gaming now instead of normal campaigns. The games are episodic, so you don't have to make adult schedules come together week after week, and you don't have a situation where everyone could play one week, you're in a cliffhanger, and someone can't show next week. All you have to do is get the table together, and the game begins and ends the same day. On the other hand, being an adult means I can afford all the suppliments and can travel to meet other gamers :) So it isn't all bad to grow up.

Been playing nigh on a quarter-century I reckon. Just turned 40. And high impact dice was for wusses (a proper D20 would be round after a year of hard use). And we had to march uphill (both ways) in the snow with all of our lead miniatures (none of that pewter or plastic stuff) to get a good game.

We then switched to AD&D (second edition), and now, my friends and I are using the 3.5 rules, having a lot of fun now and then. I feel the games getting tougher to plan out, though...

tsuyoshikentsu 01-20-06, 10:42 PM	I'm fifteen years old. This comes as a shock to most people, because my written vocabulary is rather large and my grammar is generally correct. As well, my avatar is not a Pokemon. I attribute this in a large part to my gaming experience -- I played my first game when I was six, or maybe even five; I don't remember. That game was Civilization II. I learned so much from that game. And then, a year later, came Magic. D&D followed when I was eleven.

Started at age 24 in 1979, and am 50 now. (but left the game for some years in between) Have been gaming and DMing about 50-50. Steelie

Well, if they lock it so be it, but here's my :twocents: I'm going to be ... egads! :gah: ... 30 in a few months time. I've been gaming for about a little under 8 years (so if you do the math I started when I was about 22). Just didn't have the opperunity to try out gaming until then. Our current gaming group ranges from 22 - 33. (The youngest member being someone's fiancee.) We've kept it things together pretty well, scheduling occasionally is an issue, but not too bad. My husband and I have 2 kids (a 2 year old and the 2nd is 4 months old), and so far they haven't really hindered playing, other than we tend to host games (rather than try to get a sitter or some such thing), but we also have the most space to game in as opposed to our friend's places.

I'm married. My better half is 37; I got her into the hobby, and she's been my partner in gaming crime for 15 years (I definitely live in the best of all possible worlds). The core group with which I usually play (the newest of whom joined a mere 10 years ago) consists of a married 35 year old, a partnered 37 year old, and a married 26 year old. Even with the strictures of real life, we manage to get together for gaming about 30-40 times per year.

The guy who got mee hooked is 32 and has been playing for 10 years, and our former DM was 33 and started even earlier. The Hendrick de **** student club in Groningen has a long DnD tradition, as does the Rabenhaupt gaming club, dating back to at least the 80's.

Not sure why this should be locked - every board has a monthly 'how old are you' or 'where do you live' thread. Good chance for everyone to get introduced properly. Of course, considering the speed of these boards, the issue may be technological rather than editorial. Time to split the servers guys :D M
TalonofTiamat 01-21-06, 02:00 PM	I'm 16 (17 in March). I've been playing for almost 5 years now. I've been a player and a DM in about equal amounts (prefer DMing). I usually play with guys my own age (no girls unfortunately) but on saturdays, I play with some of the veterans of the game.

Frida 01-21-06, 04:01 PM	Well I started playing with my friend and his older brother when I was eight. then I didnt play for many years until I was fourteen. A few years later I met my boyfriend and future husband, we have been playing together for just about every weekend since. Thats about seven years now. I am twentyfour. We started playing D&D when the 3,0 edition came out. I suppose I wouldnt have been roleplaying so much or maybe not atoll if my spouse didnt play. Roleplaying is very time consuming and requires alot of dedication. Someone who doesnt play would have a hard time understanding why you would like to be away for so many hours at a time. Most young people have all the time in the world for roleplaying. Time that older people with a family and a full time job just doesnt have, even if the enthusiasm is still there. I am very lucky however that I met someone who also have a passion for roleplaying and also happens to be the best gm I have ever had.
