| Necrosaro02-11-07, 08:57 PM | Hi, i am a druid. i have dog as an animal companion and have no idea what they are saying in the Player's Handbook on how to adapt it as an animal companion. On page 36, under the Bonus HD section it says "an animal companion has good fortitude and reflex saves (treat it as a character whose level equals the animal's HD)". I don't know what they are talkign about, does that mean he gets my fortitude and reflex saves? |
| chava02-11-07, 09:05 PM | Poor save progression = rounddown (HD * 1/3) Good save progression = rounddown (((HD-1)*1/2)+2.5) (for the base save) Now for an example: A cleric has a good Fort and Will saves and a poor Ref save. HD 1 = fort 2, ref 0, will 2 HD 10 = fort 7, ref 3, will 7 |

| pukunui02-12-07, 08:03 PM | See Table 3-1 on pg. 22 of the PHB. If your dog has, say, 3 HD, then it would be considered a 3rd lvl character and would have +3 base Fort and Ref saves and +1 base Will save. If your dog has, say, 8 HD, it's considered 8th lvl, and it would thus have +6 base Fort and Ref saves and +2 base Will save. |

I don't know what they are talkign about, does that mean he gets my fortitude and reflex saves? Just add the amount of HD it says to add. For example Sam the Druid has a Riding Dog (s HD I believe). At level 3 Sam's dog gains +2 HD (each is 1d8, because animals get 1d8 as listed in Monster Manual). Sam's dog did reach level 3 (well 4 but either way) so he gets a feat as everyone and his mother with 3 actual Hd get. |
