| Lord_Destron09-04-05, 10:02 PM | This might not be the right board for this but does anyone have stats for a moose? (Preferably from an official source but any non overpowered set of stats would be good!) Apparently there's some in Dragon #327 but I'm not quite sure. I just really want my druid to have a moose animal companion but I've searched nearly everywhere and I cannot find any, lol. Please help a fellow druid! |

| ticattack09-05-05, 01:19 AM | A moose once bit my sister.Well, it's a good thing Sweden has such a wonderful telephone system, so that you could call the ambulance. If you need to, use a heavy horse and give it a gore attack. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. Also, for future reference, perhaps the "monster" board, or even something on character making? |
| kuhTHOOloo09-05-05, 01:26 AM | If you need to, use a heavy horse and give it a gore attack. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. And bite. This is probably the best bet...just don't carve your initials into it with a toothbrush. And please, PLEASE, please think very hard before actually taking a moose as your companion. Do you REALLY want moose jokes every other minute? |
| Tyler Do'Urden09-05-05, 01:40 AM | A moose once bit my sister. You better watch out, you're liable to get sacked with talk like that. |
| Ni!09-05-05, 03:29 AM | Mynd you, moose byte Karen pretty hard... |
| MarkB09-05-05, 08:49 AM | I seem to recall there's a Dire Elk in the Monster Manual II. You could use those stats for a Dire Moose. |

The moose that they listed in the recent Dragon issue was someone's idea of a joke. Apparently they've never seen a moose -- they have a much higher strength that 14!! These critters are freaking huge (I live in Maine and have seem them on a few occasions). Not creatures to mess with. My suggestion would be to base your moose off a bison. Replace the stampede with the trampling feat (since moose aren't herd creatures) and I would consider getting rid of the alertness feat - moose are not the most aware creatures out there. They rely on their size to keep them out of trouble. But the stats and attack and whatnot for a bison match pretty well with what a moose would probably be. Moose pretty much use their horns for attack. And maybe a kick, but as with most herbavores, biting is not a main attack form. |
| Phrennzy09-05-05, 12:13 PM | I was thinking of getting a Flying Squirrel as my familiar...what do you think? |

Not creatures to mess with. Thanks tarsia, that's actually a pretty good idea. Now all I need is too take that "nature's link" feat to get it earlier! (If you're wondering what I'm talking about, the feat is from the supplement: Champions of Wild...oh wait, that's a nature show. Anyway, the book has a similar title to that!) As for the rest of you Monte Python quoters: Thanks for your "helpful" input  As for the flying squirrel: Personally, I hate squirrels, but that sounds far more interesting than the choices provided by the player's handbook. |
| CryoSilver09-05-05, 02:12 PM | I love squirrels... they taste great. |
| Gurthoron09-05-05, 02:28 PM | With moose stats, you really need a kick attack. Their primary defense mechanism is kicks from those huge fricking hooves (dinner plates, people. Hard, bony, flying dinner plates.) The horns are obviously not used by the females, and even the males depend on hooves more I believe. Maybe 2 hoof attacks and a gore attack as secondary. Str 18 ish, Dex 10, Con 18, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 6 (not sure on cha). Some natural armor, same stability type thing. (for moving through snow or water) Then again, I love moose and am also very cautious towards them. I just know, up close, they are huge and scary. |
| James Wildspell09-05-05, 02:30 PM | Don't forget that Moose are semi-aquatic, and that may be enough to give them a swim score. And they do not have horns. The males have antlers, which they shed after the rutting season. |

| MarkB09-06-05, 12:00 PM | The moose is one of the greatest animals EVAR. And goes well with chocolate (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~jbley/bork.html), too. :D |
| Thelandrach09-06-05, 09:16 PM | ... remember that they're really big, bigger than horses, and they don't crawl on all fours like lions and tigers and bears... they don't do well in buildings... |
| kuhTHOOloo09-06-05, 09:55 PM | Please, I cannot stress this enough. Do you really want the constant Monty Python references from your group? I mean, look at what happened here...It's going to be like that every game session. |
| Brave Sir Bevier09-06-05, 10:13 PM | My cat is named Moose. I could give you his stats, but I think that you will find the following more appealing. ---------------------------------------------------------- Moose Large Animal Hit Dice: 4d8+12 (30 HP) Initiative: +1 (Dex) Speed: 50 ft. AC: 13 (-1 size, +1 Dex, +3 Natural) Attacks: 2 Hooves +6 melee, Gore +1 melee (Bull only) Damage: Hoof 1d6+4, Gore 1d10+2 (Bull only) Face/Reach: 5 ft x 10 ft (long)/5 ft Special Attacks: Antler Drive (Bull Only) Special Qualities: Scent, Long Shanks Saves: Fort +7, Dex +2, Will +2 Abilities: Str 19, Dex 13, Con 17, Int 2, Wis 13, Cha 6 Skills: Spot +6, Listen + 7, Swim +10 Climate/Terrain: Cold forest, hills and grasslands; Temperate forest, hills, and mountains Organization: Single or pair Challenge Rating: 1 Treasure: None Alignment: Always Neutral Advancement: 5-9 HD (Large), 10-12 HD (Huge) Description Moose are the largest member of the deer family. They are solitary animals; pairs of moose are usually a cow and a calf (2 HD), two fighting bulls (summer and spring only) or a mating pair (spring only.) Moose can be trained as mounts, but they are particularly reluctant to enter combat. Training a moose as a combat mount has a DC of 25 + the moose’s HD. Combat Moose will defend themselves from physical attacks, but will try to run away at the first opportunity, preferably to a body of water in which they can loose most of their natural enemies. Bulls in a rut and cows separated from their calves will be significantly more aggressive, fighting even to the death. Special Attacks Antler Drive (ex): Moose antlers are particularly effective at pushing other creatures out of the way. Moose with antlers gain a +4 circumstance bonus to Bull Rush and Overrun attacks. Special Qualities Long Shanks (ex): Because of their long stride, moose may move over trackless terrain as if it were one category easier. This ability is only effective if the moose is in one of its native climate/terrain combinations. A moose would move at the normal rate for its speed over trackless warm hills, but it would move through a trackless cold forest as if it were on a road or trail. This ability has no effect on actual trails or roads; moose move over these at the normal rate for their speed. Skills Moose receive a +6 racial bonus to Swim checks. --------------------------------------------------------------- http://diamondthrone.com/displaycontent.cfm?iConID=379&pf=true ________________________________________ _______________ |
