So my group's starting a new campaign with a new DM, and I've been considering switching characters. Currently I play a level 15 Crusader of Pelor, but I was thinking of switching to Cleric. Here's the rest of the group: Knight/Cavalier Warmage Wizard (Transmuter/Blaster) Rogue Druid The new campaign is, I have been told by the DM-to-be, very undead-heavy. So I was thinking of switching because a.) We lack a very reliable source of healing, and b.) We need someone to turn undead. Also, the Knight/Cavalier can take care of melee, but a Cleric could do some too. My final idea was Cleric 5/Sacred Purifier (Libris Mortis) 5/Radiant Servant of Pelor 5, going to RSoP 10. The problem is that I have been through a rather lot of characters, and I feel like I should just suck it up and stick to one character. What do others think? Should I keep my character, or switch so we have a good source of healing? For everyone who would say "Play what you want", I'd be happy playing either. |

Cleric healing in combat is extremely underpowered compared to potential damage output, and most of the time healing is less effective than killing more faster. A crusader should be able to deal some decent damage while throwing a little healing around to nearby allies. For healing between combat, I see the problem...but again...having the party invest in some cure wands should cover that. Undead would be a bit more problematic though...if your DM loves throwing undead at the party, it might be worth considering switching. |

Its frustrating to have to randomly "write in" a new character when the old one simply disappears from the planet for no reason. Plus customizing a new character just to have an easy time with a new campaign using Metagame knowledge is pretty low. The DM was probably just letting you all know about the adventure to get you excited and your taking the DM being friendly and stabbing him in the eye with it. I mean your Crusader is going to be an order of magnitude better than the Rogue in this campaign, yet that person isnt changing characters? As a Player i will still say keep the character. Over coming the challenges given to you is what makes the game fun and well challenging. So your not optimized for this single adventure... so. Use that as a challenge to overcome and enjoy it. I have changed characters mid campaign a total of 1 time in 20 years of playing D&D. And that, while needed, felt horrible to me and i still appoligize to the current DM for doing that. The campaign i was playing was to be heavily fluff and RP based, I was simply burned out with playing a spell caster and i couldnt think of what to do with the character. So i changed over to a character that i thought would simply be fun. So basically i'm saying stick it out, espically if you've changed characters a few times before this. |

But if you kill your opponent he wont harm you never again (unless you know... he turns into an undead or something) |
