| Paradoxic406-16-06, 12:41 AM | I'm participating in a D&D tournament in my hometown and I am planning on playing a binder, and anyone who knows the Binder knows that the antimagic field is his worst enemy. How can a 20th level binder overcome the sever crippling disability that is the weakness to the antimagic field, any ideas? |

Perhaps take a few feats so you could fall back on non-magical fighting, and just stick close to the caster who casted it. Doubt he wants to be in it himself. However if it is a fighter who wears a ring with antimagic permanently on it, then your only hope is the disjunction. |

Then you've still got decent armor and 5 feet of steel to fall back on, as opposed to leather and a big stick. |

Counterspell the casting of AMF, if possible. If it's not, maybe you can block the effect. I have never looked at this issue before, but when I looked up AMF in the PH just now, it listed a few spells that were unaffected, including Wall of Force, Prismatic Sphere, and Prismatic Wall. Wall of Force states that it blocks spell effects in both directions, and Antimagic Field is an emanation, centered on the caster. It is not a dead magic zone, even though it acts like one. It is a spell. Interestingly, in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, Shadow Weave Magic is unaffected by dead magic zones, but is affected by AMF [FR p.57]. So, if you can put up a Wall of Force between you and the caster of AMF, your spells should work normally on your side of the wall, although you still have problems affecting creatures on the other side. As emanations do not turn corners, just be sure to have total cover from the Wall. Be sure to summon things with high spell resistance, as it does provide a defense against AMF [PH p.200]. They don't have to check SR against the AMF until they are within 10' of the AMF caster, so creatures with nonmagic ranged/reach attacks should work a treat, although you might have to supply the ammo, as ammo that arrives with a summoned creature would probably disappear once it hit the Field. If you can summon constructs or bruiser undead with high spell resistance to start with (SR bolstering spells and items won't work, for obvious reasons), they may also do the job for you. Even better, if you can trap the caster in a room or on the other side of a Wall of Force or Prismatic Wall, the caster will have to dismiss the AMF to have a prayer of getting untrapped and affecting you. Hope that helps. |

Which means the caster (minimum lvl 11) has just rendered himself unable to cast further spells, or even use magic items until the duration runs out. Just have the fighter kill him and the field should go away. Also, while AMF will get rid of your vestige abilities while you are in the field, you can still use your abilities when you are beyond its reach, so, do you have any abilities that make you better at ranged combat, or give you some thing you can use to attack from a distance? That's my recommendation at least. Spells and effects that are resistant to AMF are relatively high level effects, so they're generally somewhat hard to come by unless you have a high level caster or a lot of UMD, so the best recommendation I could give is kill or rout the caster while he's effectively defenseless. |
