I see fighters with their super damage, and wizards with their powerful spells and rogues with their backstabs.

My question is if there is any good ranged template that can actually deal decent damage?

Fighter/ Ranger I think is the best or go for the Prc of Deepwood sniper

I'd go with Rogue/Ranger as core classes, then add either Deepwood Sniper or Order of the Bow Initiate.

The rogue levels synergize very well with ranger skills, and their sneak attack works very well for an "expert marksman."

The power of an elven clerical archer, however, is also noteworthy.

Try the Character Optimization board for more detail - their build FAQ (stickied at the top of the page) has a whole section dedicated to archers.

I have to say Rogue/Cleric, or Fighter/Sorcerer, but Rog/Clr is best.

I play with a straight fighter that took all the archery feats. She consistently deals out more damage to individual enemies than either my Sorc or the Wiz in the group.

I've got a Ftr4/Rgr4/DWS4, and everything is working beautifully.
succeed on at least one shot most rounds
have 4 attacks
make full attacks most rounds (range inc. of 185')
average 14 damage a shot
crit at least once per combat at x4 (avg 56 damage)

Sometimes I wish I had a few more feats, but the extra crit range and multiplier from DWS are fabulous, and the skill points and spells that come along with Ranger are very handy.

If the campaign isn't going into many levels and you just want core classes (not much time for PrC)..
Fighter / Rogue = Feats, skills, and Sneak Attack damage. Pure Damage.

Rogue / Cleric = Sustain the party's health while doing much sneak attack damage with buffing up your arrows! (Magic Weapon, Great Magic Weapon )

Looking for a Prestiege Class this time of Season? Well I have a deal for you! (This is the build I am using..) It will keep your BAB at your level, give you all the good feats plus Ranged Threat and Combat Reflexes. Your threat area expands to 20 feet and with combat reflexes you'll do a buttload of attacks! Combined with an ok Str, Point Blank Shot, and Weapon Specialization! And of course if you have a buffer in your party, it gets sick!

1. Rng 1 [Track](point blank shot)
2. Rng 2 (rapid shot)
3. Rng 2 / Ftr 1 (priese Shot, w.focus)
4. Rng 2 / Ftr 2 (Ranged Threat***)
5. Rng 2 / Ftr 3
6. Rng 2 / Ftr 3 / OotB 1 (Combat Reflexes)
7. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 1 (Weapon Specialization)
8. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 1 / DwS 1
9. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 1 / DwS 2 (*)
10. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 2 / DwS 2
11. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 3 / DwS 2
12. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 4 / DwS 2 (*)
13. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 5 / DwS 2
14. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 6 / DwS 2
15. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 7 / DwS 2 (*)
16. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 8 / DwS 2
17. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 9 / DwS 2
18. Rng 2 / Ftr 4 / OotB 10 / DwS 2 (*)

*** Ranged Threat - A feat in the Quinasential Elf book by Mongoose Publishing.
* - Not sure

Hey is the feat from the Peerless Archer class, Power Shot, a selectable feat? If so get that at level 9, with all your BAB/DEX/ and what not you can take a -2 to hit and rack that damage.

Well with my build I currently ( level 6 ) have 20 dex, so if anyone gets in my area (charged at) I get 5 attacks. It really is nice. And then you can take a Full Round Action (or is it Standard? ) for using the new OotBi's ability to add an extra d8 of damage every other level (within 30 feet, at level 10 it expands to 60)

Check out this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=131826&highlight=%2Aarcher%2A+OR+%2Asnip%2A) for a sniper that deals insanely high amounts of damage.

Or look at this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132384&highlight=%2Aarcher%2A+OR+%2Asnip%2A) for a more combat-oriented archer.

Either one will demolish the bad guys with his preferred method of killing (sniping/in combat). I prefer the more combat-otiented one myself, but the other one can make for a really nasty dragon-slayer.

I can't remember what book it's in but it might be one of the Mongoose books. The feat is called Ranged Threat....just think of the possibilities.

The best build I've come up with for an archer is a Fighter 6/Sorcerer 2/Deepwood Sniper 2/Peerless Archer 10.

An archer ranger taking levels in Order of the Bow Intiate (Updated version from Complete Warrior), is a nice combo. I'm playing on right now, my character is ranger9/OBI 1. I've been dealing an average of about 20 points a round, 30 if I'm within 30ft. If I rapid shot add another 9 points (average) onto that.

I once played an Elven Ranger/Wizard/Arcane Archer.
If you do some calculating you can end up with a really powerful Character.

If you want more details, let me know and I will dig around for the Character sheet. ;)
