hello i havent played d&d in a very long time however i am interested in starting again, i am wondering if anyone has any ideas for me on how to go about finding other players? i live in an area where i know very few people.

Go to your local gaming store or store that sells gaming supplies, and ask to put up a notice looking for gamers. I would also suggest putting up an add on Craigslist.com. Both options have worked for me over the years.

Where do you live? You may want to try to do a search for gaming clubs in your state, see if any are close enough to be worth driving to.

I found my current D&D group about 2 years ago on The Palladium games site, We have had a pretty good run gaming almost every other week since, oddly we only played about 8 sessions of Palladium games, the rest has been D&D with Exalted and Starwars mixed in...

Anyway if your in Maryland let me know.

You can also use meetup.com and do a search for D&D groups in your local area. This is what I used to find more players and DMs.
