| pres_man05-03-06, 12:39 AM | Well since they are mindless, they are pretty much impossible to train. If you can get a special type of harness or something to make them controlable then maybe. Though you might see if you can find a celestial (unlikely) or fiendish (more likely) monstrous spider, and befriend it. |
| Varia05-03-06, 08:49 AM | I remember a GURPS campaign I played in years ago where I *WAS* the spider mount. :P That was a fun character too. Psionics for communication and aquiring prey (telecontrol), and big pointy poisonous mandibles for everything else. And a legless 12 year old orphan girl rune mage as my rider. :) *Hugs* Varia |
| Morrowner05-03-06, 08:58 AM | In the DMG you can get a Large Monstrous Spider as a special paladin mount. Believe it, its true, you just count as a level down. It aint no hippogriff or unicorn but it is pretty pimpin'. |
| Kanesuke05-03-06, 09:18 AM | You could always get someone to Awaken a spider large enough to carry you... |
| celtredleg05-03-06, 10:45 AM | Several ways to do it, but none of them are cheap or easy. There just isnt a smiling bobs used spider lot down the streeBut with the right DM it could be a lot of fun. Be sure you talk to him first. |

| Aniona_Amakiir05-03-06, 11:23 AM | Arms and equipment guide (3.0) states that the price for a spider mount is 2000 gp. (Hoping im not violating any laws here) |
| Lincoln Hills05-03-06, 02:19 PM | There are no skills, feats, or spells (barring, perhaps, limited wish?) that allows people to control giant spiders - naturally occurring ones, that is. "Mindless" makes them immune to all the conventional methods. Here are a couple of solutions you won't find in the books. Hive insects, which use natural odors to communicate with each other, would be much easier to find a way around - the humble prestidigitation can create scents for an hour... though you might have to have the Scent ability yourself (via wild shape, for example) and hours of observing the creatures in the wild before you understood the scent-based "language" well enough to compel cooperation. An alternate form would rely on "magic item creation" in a warped way - the Craft Construct feat would be ideal justification for it. Capture your giant spider and apply a set of magical brands to the exoskeleton - runic imprints which the creature will carry until it casts off its current exoskeleton. The pattern of the brands would 'override' the creature's virtually non-existent mind with your magical instructions, animating it much like animate object. Plus, now your giant spider has runes all over it! Tres Warhammer! (Of course, that second method would work just as easily on a hat-rack or a footstool, but those 1) aren't poisonous, 2) don't climb walls, and 3) don't exactly strike fear into the hearts of your enemies. "Run! He's riding an animated davenport!") |
