Arcane Thesis/Metamagic School Focus on spells in Wands? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-15-07, 11:54 PM I haven't seen this posted anywhere else before so I'm asking it. If I have Arcane Thesis on a spell and I want to store that spell in a Wand (assuming it is normally storeable in a Wand) do the benefits of Arcane Thesis carry on with the spell? Like for example: A wand of Scroching Ray, with Scorching Ray as my Arcane Thesis choice, and I Maximize it. Would I be able to put it in the wand as a spell taking up a fourth level spell slot, as Arcane Thesis allows me to prepare it that way, or is it not able to be placed in the Wand because it normally takes up a fifth level spell slot?

Think of it this way: A wand of Empowered Scorching Ray has rays averaging 21 points of damage regardless of how the spell got into the wand. It is therefore just as powerful, and just as valuable as any other wand of Scorching Ray that averages 21 points of damage. So, it should cost just as much as any other wand that does the exact same thing.

If the power level of a Maximized Scorching Ray is beyond the power of a wand, then it doesnt matter what technique you used to make it. It is still above the power level of the want.

07-16-07, 11:04 AM Regardless of the way I asked him to conceptualize it, my "no" is still consistent with other rules on effects that lower the spell level: Divine Metamagic and Sudden feats.

According to the FAQ, the price of the item is just as though the normal metamagic were applied. Therefore, I think it is safe to say that it should be the case with Arcane Thesis as well.
