| superjesusfromthefuture05-21-07, 08:57 PM | I usually DM games but my friend asked me to play in his game. I have to make a 4th level character and im strongly concidering an archivist because A) Ive never played one or seen anyone play one B) from what i have seen they are very good. But do you guys know of any good feats, races, equipment or anything at all that can make the best of the archivists abilities? Thanks |
| BlackWeasel05-22-07, 03:54 AM | Just remember you can get scrolls of any divine spell such as the cleric domain spells and paladin/ranger spells |
| trapspringer05-22-07, 12:16 PM | Dude, it's a wizard. Take feats accordingly. I mean, I think they're really cool. You're basically Keanu Reaves (er... well, not Neo, but Constantine...). It's got potential as a character and it's a way for more plan-y types to get some divine casting behind them. |

So it's like a divine wizard with a dash of bard thrown in. Anyway, if you check the feat index you'll find a series of feats that will allow you to apply dark knowledge to new types of monsters. Like Draconic Archivist to affect dragons and constructs. Or Archivist of Nature to affect fey and giants. Otherwise you're just a divine wizard. |

But also special spells granted by prestige classes that are divine in nature and have thier own spell lists. There are so many suppliments that the list is endless, but it means alot to be able to have access to these spells. There are many 3rd and 4th lvl ranger spells that are immediate and swift actions that I would be frothing at the mouth to run one. I just havent had a chance to start a new campaign yet and play one... :D Enjoy. |
| JulesCARV05-22-07, 10:56 PM | Surprisingly -- or perhaps not -- the adept is actually one of the strongest lists for an archivist draw from. They get spells like (baleful) polymorph, scorching ray, heal at level 5, and sleep. |
| Bopple05-23-07, 07:24 AM | There are basically 3 paths for archivists to tread. a) Straight archivist - simple but powerful. b) Cozilla variant - take a PrC which gives you turn undead and take Divine Metamagic/Persistent Spell c) Shadowcraft Mage variant - using Shadowcraft Mage PrC in Races of Stone |

A fourth level ranger spell isn't really the same as a fourth level wizard spell, after all. |

A fourth level ranger spell isn't really the same as a fourth level wizard spell, after all. Yes, but this isn't the only example of this. I was reading a different class/feat/something yesterday (wish I could remember what) and thinking, "but wait, those levels aren't built to work together like that" (I think it had something to do with bards or sublime chords, something like that). Edit: This is why alcohol and D&D do not mix. I think the designers forget sometimes that they built the spell lists to be seperate, and that spell level is not an equal measurement between classes. |
| foxtail05-23-07, 02:48 PM | And not just Cleric domain spells and paladin/druid/ranger ones as well. Especially considering you can give your fighter friend a holy sword spell by the time you're 7th level. Of course, that hinges on finding a paladin with the Scribe Scroll feat. |
