| Neo_Leviathan02-21-06, 12:10 PM | Ok, this has never happened to me before. I'm going to be starting in a new campaign soon (6 other players, Barbarian, Wizard, Cleric/Sorc/True Necromancer, Ranger, Artificer, Fighter), and I just *cannot* settle on a character idea. First up I thought a Bard/Fochlucan Lyrist build, then after rolling my stats I thought maybe just a straight Bard, was almost certain with a Wizard/Archivist/Mystic Theurge, toyed briefly with a Master of Many Forms, almost considered a Chameleon.. You get the idea. No matter what I do I just can't seem to settle on a character idea. Does anyone have some advice on a fun/weird/interesting/cool yet still useful character that is playable from 1-20? |

| Hariman02-21-06, 12:43 PM | What are the stats for your character? |
| danielinthewolvesden02-21-06, 01:38 PM | That party needs more healing. However, it has no trap-finding scout-type. I'd do a rogue, or another class that can find traps. If you can- max out UMD and get a want of healing. |
| The Half-Orc Wizard02-21-06, 03:06 PM | I suggest a Druid. Even in such a large party, you'll always make yourself useful. You can also back the Cleric up with healing. Wouldnt toss Rogue out either, like Danielinwolvesden said. I know it's not as interesting as some of the other characters you were thinking about, in terms of PrC's, but I've always loved going 1-20 in one class. And Druid is a great class to do it in. |
| Saxis02-21-06, 04:21 PM | With 3 fighter types, looks like you are missing out on some healing, and definitely need a rogue. A bard would look good in there too. Heck, depending on what books are allowed, I'd even try to cover all three of those. Since you mentioned Fochlucan Lyrist.... Not sure if you're allowed to use Home Regions from Champions of Valor, but if you can, look into taking Bardic Tutelage and select Druidic as your "any" bonus language. I'd suggest a Bard 4/Rogue 2/Archivist 4/FochLyr 10. May want to take the feat so you can increase Rogue skills all the way. Can't recall the name of it now... Doesn't take huge abilities to make this work... You're focus is on skills, so Intelligence is your Primary Stat, and 14 or so Charisma would be nice. |
| deusxmachina02-21-06, 06:32 PM | Yeah, rogue seems like the obvious choice, especially if you're undecided anyway. There's various prestige classes you could then get into. Master Thrower is fun. Just don't try to turn a rogue into a fighter. Scout also gets trapfinding. You could be a Ninja, too. Ninja sounds good. Even a few ranks in Use Magic Device would let you use wands of cure light wounds on everyone between encounters if need be. |
| allenchan02-21-06, 06:38 PM | Rogue 2/Archivist X/Chameleon X |
| DarknessEternal02-21-06, 08:00 PM | Rogue 2/Archivist X/Chameleon X Exactly what I did when I couldn't decide. Wait, I thought that said Artificer. I'm a self-made man. Make my own items that I need to do whatever I want. |
| Neo_Leviathan02-21-06, 10:20 PM | Well I can use basically any 3.5 or unupdated 3.0 book, subject to DM approval of course. The party *does* have a trapfinding person, the Artificer gets trapfinding. My stats are as follows, and I'm allowed to switch two scores (Eg, str and con). I can use either of these sets. Str 10 Dex 17 Con 18 Int 12 Wis 12 Cha 13 or Str 10 Dex 17 Con 10 Int 16 Wis 15 Cha 11 I originally didn't want to play a rogue, however I think if I could stay away from the generic "Two weapon fighting sneak attack" model it mightn't be too bad. |
| serow_#R02-21-06, 10:30 PM | rogue/cleric/shadowbane stalker you're a cleric who can sneak |

I recommend using the 18 con set of ability scores. You'll live a LOT longer in a bad situation. Invisible Blade or Master Thrower are good to keep away from the TWF Rogue. Taking Exotic Weapon Prof: Whip and getting a Whip Dagger (Arms and Equipment, 1d6 slashing, 19-20 x2, 15 foot reach, threated as a whip for feat purposes.) and a level of Exotic Weapon Master would make for a good base for a "Keep you distance" build. I think that a Dwarven Rogue Exotic Weapon Master Two Weapon Fighter would be at least a little unique. I don't think Weapon Finesse would work with a Dwarven Urgrosh. You could just go with the Dwarven Waraxe if you wanted. Ranged Rogue would be good too, just not as efficient as a flanker. Those are the best ideas/advice I have right now. (A dwarven rogue, who makes a Dwarven rogue?) Tell me what you think. I'd like to know. Hariman |
| Hvirfilvindr02-22-06, 01:19 AM | Even if you do go down the path of the Rogue, I wouldn't take ranks in UMD just to fill in the healing gap in your party. Your Ranger can use wands of CLW and CMW without the need to make UMD checks. This isn't to say that UMD isn't a fantastic skill - just that you don't need to focus as much on it for the purpose of healing your party between encounters. |

Hariman take the ninja from then get iajitsu focus(probably spelled wrong) from oriental adventures. use the Str 10 Dex 17 Con 18 Int 12 Wis 12 Cha 13 |
| v209902-22-06, 07:30 AM | be a cleric/monk/(spell thief or hexblade) you can hit heal and hurt others |
