Me and another party member got in to argument on if,

1) You move in to a threat range you provide an attack of opportunity.
2) And if you move around in an enemy’s threat range they get an attack of opportunity ageist you.
3) Moving in to a persons square provides an attack of opportunity

Another unrelated argument is if you are invisible can you pass threw an enemy square assuming its not a gelatinous cube.

1) No. Moving into a threatened area does not draw an AoO.
2) Yes. Moving WITHIN a threatened area draws AoO.
3) Yes. Moving into an occupied square draws an AoO.
4) No, not as far as I know.

EDIT: Note - taking a 5' step, even within a threatened area, usually does not provoke an AoO.

Moving WITHIN a threatened area draws AoO.
To clarify, leaving a threatened square provokes an attack of opportunity.

And if you're invisible and your opponent has no way of noticing you (failed listen and spot checks) then situations in which you would take attacks of opportunity are completely moot. I've never seen any rule anywhere that says that you can invisibly move through an opponent's square, but it's not a huge jump in logic to houserule it into your combat.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a few similar questions of my own.
1) What if you're in an opponents threatened square, and you move to the other threatened square of the same opponent (or some other opponent, shouldnt make a difference), and then move out of the threatened zone of the opponent (away from him). Would he get an AoO when you move the first time, or both times? Note that all of this is happening in the same move action.
2) You use 2 move actions in a round to move 2x your speed and after you've moved 8 squares (assuming your speed is 40ft) you land on an opponents threatened square, but then you use the other move action to move away from the opponent and out of his threatened square. Is it treated like a one big move action, or 2 move actions separately? AoO?

If I recall correctly ....

1) if he has Combat Reflexes giving him two or more attacks of opportunity per turn, the answer is Yes, he can attack you twice. Normally, you are limited to one attack of opportunity per combat turn, however, so he could only attack you once.

2) Yes, he gets an attack of opportunity. Whether it is treated as one or two moves is moot - you leave his threatened square, you get bopped.

So if you would, for example, walk by an opponent with 5ft reach (walk by - as in walking right past him, in one move action, through 3 threatened squares of his) he would get in total 3 AoO's on you (assuming he has combat reflexes and a high dex)?

Moving out of more than one square threatened by the same opponent in the same round doesn’t count as more than one opportunity for that opponent.Don't worry--even Rich Burlew got this wrong.

Oh, and the Withdraw action allows you to move up to double your speed as a full-round action with the first square of movement not provoking. It's a cleaner way of representing the 3.0 concept of "your first square of movement, if all you do is move, doesn't provoke".

1. Moving out of a threatened area provokes an AoO.

From the SRD:
Provoking an Attack of Opportunity: Two kinds of actions can provoke attacks of opportunity: moving out of a threatened square and performing an action within a threatened square.
Moving: Moving out of a threatened square usually provokes an attack of opportunity from the threatening opponent. There are two common methods of avoiding such an attack—the 5-foot-step and the withdraw action (see below).
Performing a Distracting Act: Some actions, when performed in a threatened square, provoke attacks of opportunity as you divert your attention from the battle. Table: Actions in Combat notes many of the actions that provoke attacks of opportunity.
Remember that even actions that normally provoke attacks of opportunity may have exceptions to this rule.

Noldorforce has the right answer to these scenarios .. just to re-enforce what's being said:

a) you do not provoke when you enter a threatened area.
b) you do provoke when you leave a threatened area.
c) technically you "provoke" each time you leave a threatened square .. however, your opponent only gets 1 opportunity to take the AoO (and they can effectively choose at which point they take it ... I recall reading this somewhere, book or FAQ? not sure ... but I find the reference, I'll post it ...)
d) Combat Reflexes doesn't change (c) .. but it does allow you to take multiple AoOs on the same target for different actions ... (note that since moving 20 ft is 1 action, they can only take 1 AoO on you ... even if they get multiple opportunities in which to take it ... )

Hope that doesn't confuse more ... :tiphat:

To help clarify (confuse) further:

You could technically walk in a circle around the opponent and they only get one attack of opportunity. This is because they are allowed only one AoO against you for moving out of squares threatened by them.

However, if you moved 10' and were still in a square that they threatened, and then used a second move action to load your crossbow, then they would get two AoO's against you: One for when you moved out of the threatened area, and the second for when you used a move action to load your light crossbow. (This assumes they have combat reflexes and a dex bonus of at least +1)

Both would be resolved before each action. So the opponent would attack before you made your movement, and again before you loaded your crossbow.

Taking a 5' step does not provoke an AoO.

Additionally, only Movement has the limitation of preventing further AOO. If in the above example the character were to manifest Hustle as a swift action then use a move action to load a second, previously unloaded, crossbow he would provoke a THIRD attack of opportunity even though he took a similar action early in his same turn.

Naturally, only if the enemy has Combat Reflexes or otherwise choses to turn down previous AOO could he take the second and third attack.

On a more amusing note, pulling things in and out of your belt pouch and provoking attacks is a great way to generate more Attacks of Opportunity with Karmic Strike/Robilar's Gambit.

3) Moving in to a persons square provides an attack of opportunity
While we are at it: There are cases when this action does not provoke, namely grappling with Improved Grapple and bullrushing with Improved Bullrush.

Now I might be wrong, but I thought you could only make a single atack of opportunity against an opponent even if you can make more than one per turn.
I think the example in the book states something about hitting three goblins once each as they move through your threatened area.
I'll go lool at my books to clarify :D

OK, i've just looked in the PHB and unless i've read it wrong it states you can only make one attack of opportunity per opportunity. EG (assume you have dex 14 therefore 3 attacks of oppotunity) three goblins stand in your threatened area and they all drink a potion, you can take one attack of opportunity against each of them.
If a single goblin stands in your threatened range and moves withinn your threatened area and then drinks a potion you can make two attacks of opportunity.

Hope i'm not teaching anyone to suck eggs :D
