02-14-08, 01:22 AM We got some shadow dragon bits and made armor out of it. However noone has bothered to look up what the benefits are, and I don't have the books (only PHC and Complete Scoundrel). Plus I have some more basic questions on magic armor...

What is the magic AC bonus from being dragon hide/scale/whatever?
Does such a bonus apply to Touch, or only FlatFoot and AC?
What other benefits are there?
Any restrictions on what type of armor could be made? (I'm a rogue)
What is the check penalty for magic armor (is it the same as masterwork check penalty)?

02-14-08, 01:57 AM No benefits other than the armor automatically being Masterwork. Most other dragonhides, however, give Resistance 5 to the energy type of the dragons breath weapon. In this case, maybe Negative Energy Resistance 5?

2. As there is no bonus, yes. But normally armor enchantment bonuses only apply to total and flat footed AC, not touch AC.
3. The armor is automatically masterwork and immune to breath weapon energy of the dragon (not the wearer, just the armor itself!). That you get resistance 5 when wearing this armor is wrong. Thet only applies to dragoncrafted armor.
4. Yes, that depends on the size of the dragon
5. Yes, as magic armor must be masterwork anyway.

02-14-08, 10:39 AM Well the dragon was gargantuan so I don't think size is an issue. There were also one or two huge shadow dragons killed in the area. The details are a little fuzzy thanks to some unclear deus ex machina from the DM (no doubt as we're mostly 10th level with one or two 15th.)

02-14-08, 11:11 AM As was mentioned above the armor is merely masterwork armor of it's type. The only class that gains any true benefit otherwise is the druid, which may wear dragonhide armor designed like a suit of metal armor without breaking the no-metal-armor vow. Dragoncraft armor can also be made from the it and would cost an additional 6,000gp for medium or 11,000gp for heavy armor. Dragoncraft armor is basically the mithril of hide armor as it reduces the ACP by 2, increases the max dex by 2, and the armor is treated as being one size lighter. There is no affect on spell resistance. Dragoncraft armor can only be Hide, Scale Mail, Halfplate, or Fullplate armor.It grants resistance 5 to the energy type of the dragon, but since this was a shadow dragon the dm could go with the resistance 5 to negative energy and I would personally have placed the Shadow special quality upon it for free simply for surviving the battle. Shadow dragons are NASTY!!!

Yeah my contribution was to hit the Dragon with Torchbug Paste and waste a bunch of arrows in it's general direction. I don't really deserve credit for surviving. Thanks for the info though! The ACP and increased max dex are exactly what my rogue needs.
