05-02-07, 05:10 PM I was looking over armor proficiency to see if it was worth wearing even though Im not proficient with it. I, being a psion don;t get spell failure and I realized that I can wear up to leather armor with no penalties... I just want to make sure is that true? As far as I can see the only thing that u get for not being proficient w/ armor is minus to attack roles based on the armor check penalty, but if there's no armor check penalty can I just wear it w/out proficiency?

05-02-07, 05:23 PM You are correct. Aside from weight limitations, or you posessing an extremely high dex score, there is no reason for you not to wear some of the lighter armors.

Leather armor works. MW studded leather is better. Mithral Chain Shirt is where it's at though.

05-02-07, 05:28 PM You are correct, there is absolutely no penalty for using armor (or shields for that matter) that don't have a Armor Check Penalty.

Id say Mithril Breast Plate seeing as the fact that its Mithril makes it light armor. Or does it not work that way?

The issue isn't whether it is light armor or not, it is the armor check penalty because if you aren't proficient with a certain type of armor its ACP gets applied to attack rolls (among other things). Mithril reduces the armor check penalty by 3 so with a chain shirt that is reduced to 0. A breast plate would only be reduced to -1.
