| Lord_Destron09-12-05, 11:43 AM | Hi, My DM is running an ebberron campaign in which we are all level 2. After an adventure and a half, my DM requested that I get rid of my dwarf barbarian since he is a bit over powered. (I dropped the Feral template on him from Savage Species. 22 strength + 2 1d8 clw attacks + rage + 21 AC from Vow of poverty = OVER POWERED!) So right now, I've made three characters and I'm trying to determine what to use. Here are the other 3 members of my party: Aaron Shamus, Halfling Bard Aramil, the elf Druid with wolf animal companion Onyx of the Flying Eagle Tribe, using Stone Giant Monster Class I've made up 4 characters to replace my dwarf: Nhavus Thornclaw, Raptoran Sorcerer eventual Wild Mage Asmodeaous Von Serpius, Half-Vampire Warlock John Mather, Fighter which focuses on archery (Uses Greatbow) Magnus the Hammer, Human(using Titan Bloodline) Paladin eventual Kensai (He's monkeygripping a large warmace  ) Which do you think I should pick to benefit my party's make up? |
| Beamup09-12-05, 11:49 AM | The Sorcerer is the best fit. You don't need another fighter-type (you already have two good tanks, and will have three once you reach level 5), and the Warlock isn't that great. But somebody needs to pick up a level of Rogue or something else with Trapfinding, or you potentially have a major problem. The Bard is probably most suited to it, but you could handle it too. BTW, Feral actually works pretty reasonably as a +2 LA. So if you really like your current character, see if the DM will go for that. |
| Lord_Destron09-12-05, 11:55 AM | Yeah, I didn't think it looked overpowered either...at first glance. However, when I got 95% of the kills in one session and I took most of everything out with a single hit, I started to think that it was getting a bit excessive. :) (Also the fast healing that I picked up from the template made going to the negatives seem like nothing.) |

The special abilities from feral are based off of racial/monster HD. So your feral dwarf should never be able to get the fast healing ability (as well as a bunch of other abilities listed under the template). Get rid of the fast healing (and any other special ability the template gives for monster/racial HD) and see if your DM still thinks its overpowered or too powerful. If he still does (which could be true seeing the stat adjustment alone can be very nasty for a melee fighter), the sorceror or paladin looks like a good choice to play for group composition. |
| The Forgotten Traveler09-12-05, 03:37 PM | Well it sounds like you want to make a broken character but your DM won't let you. :( I know how you feel. While all the characters are cool, you should go with the fighter so you're DM won't immeadiately think its broken. (however it can be broken :angelhide ) If that fails than I suggest finding a new Dm to suit your tastes. ;) |
| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe09-12-05, 03:59 PM | I'd go with the Paladin/Kensai route....but take some levels in Rogue first. Nothing like being able to Sneak Attack and Smite Evil on the same round....and since you've got some big melee types already, you'll get your flanks when you need them. :smirk: As a bonus the "I have seen the light" type PC can be really fun to roleplay. |
| Lord_Destron09-12-05, 11:01 PM | From what I understand, the bard's going into rogue at next level. (Honestly, I think the player's starting to regret playing a bard) I've been leaning toward the paladin (What can I say, I like to hit things :) ), however, I do agree that the sorcerer is probably the best choice for party make up, considering that we're about to get a rogue. I think that I'm going to go with the sorcerer. Any last minute opinions? |
| Disco09-13-05, 12:44 AM | Look, a great 4 person party has - One frontline fighter - One decent figher - One healer - One magic user - One scout Now, obviously you can combine them, eg: A ranger is a decent fighter AND can be used as a scout. A druid is half a healer plus a magic user. You know. So, you look at your party and you've got your frontline fighter, and a decent amount of magic (not great) and an okay amount of healing. You're down a scout, and probably lacking some healing. I actually would not go the sorceror or mage. I think the druid and bard can cover it. I think the best fit would be the fighter with some levels in rogue. But that is just from the party's point of view: its not lacking anything so obvious that you NEED to choose something... just do what you like. :) |
