12-18-03, 08:06 PM I was wondering. I want to play a ranger in an artic setting? Would my clothing be different? Would I live until I have endure elements? Just want to know.

As previously said, you would wear fur coats and hats, an other sorts of animal leather, you could also wear clothing made of seal skin wich has the advantage of being waterproof (lined in wool or fur)... Layered clothing is always better because it breaths.

Gloves preferably made of double lared wool

also, recomendations, double up on clothing, keep a spare set in seal skin leather bag, if you get wet Hypothemia will kill you.

Snowshoes are a must, to avoid sinking in snow. Inuit bone gogles (a piece of whale bone with a slith permiting to see) prevents being snowblinded.

12-19-03, 05:38 AM Pick up the Arms and Equipment Guide for lots of useful items for artic conditions, including the snow goggles mentioned by Northen_Spur.

The Fogotten Realms source book had lots of great feats that you might want to ask your DM about. Things like resisting elements and conditions (i.e. cold) might be granted if they fit the setting.

Also, if you were considering the archery combat style, remember that it is hard to shoot arrows accurately with mittens on. Either ask for a change to a more suitable weapon (spears or harpoons) or choose the two weapon fighting combat style. Just keep in mind that durring the summer months archery would not suffer. Then again, the spear would work just as well in the summer months.

12-19-03, 12:22 PM You'll also want to carry around a shovel and snow knife during winter for digging a cave (burrow) in the snow (for sheltering in the woods) or building an igloo ( for sheltering in the plains/tundra).
Making either shelter doesn't take long (45 minutes to an hour).

You could have an arctic fox as a companion.

I've always thought it would be fun to try an arctic campaign.
