My players constantly argue over the the Artificer's ability to add a metamagic feat he knows to a wand, rod, or other spell triggger item with use of extracharges. the text does not state whether it can be applied multiple times, and I am not sure whos side to take.

Thank you very much,

What do you mean? I can't think of any metamagic feats that can be applied mroe than once anyway. Double-maximized? Double-quickened? Sounds silly to me, but I guess being able to cast a double-quickened magic missile so fast it is actually cast a few seconds ago resolves before your turn begins would be kind of cool at ninth level... but that's what Time Stop is for. Okay, I'm ranting.

I don't see your problem. If they want to blow resources on a double-maximized wand of magic missile, let them. You can't get more damage for maximizing something. The maximum is the maximum. I guess you could stack Extend Metamagic or whatever the one that adds 50% damage, but Permanency and Maximize would pretty much make those obsolete anyway.

What he is trying to ask is if you can apply multiple Different metamagic feats to apply to the spell effect using the metamagic spell trigger ability possessed by artificers.
