| Reign_of_Ice03-24-07, 03:23 AM | Can players play gods (everyone in the group) and basically continue the campaign past the norms of epic? Our GM said he would continue the epic game beyond into godhood if we could come up with reasons (i.e. challenges) for adventuring still. This is what I have so far... Maybe we only play the Avatars (half divine rank of base deity), as the gods themselves cannot step foot on the Prime Material plane? Maybe set up a strict guideline or godly laws that no deity can break at risk of loosing their godhood (Think Daniel Jackson in Stargate SG-1 when he ascended). I was thinking maybe our jobs could be dealing with the mistakes of the elder gods - like abominations (or half the epic monster list) for that matter. Clerics grant themselves powers based on how much faith they have. A deity can make it known to a cleric they are displeased with them which could shake their faith and cause them to loose their powers, but might not work at all. Also this allows Clerics to be polytheistic - worshipping many gods at once (or none at all). However the gods are still dependant on followers for power so clerics have unique leverage they don't even know about. Avatars cannot tell mortals they are gods on the Prime Material plane, they must remain in disguise at all times and limit any obvious powers that would give themselves away. The god's number of followers directly represent how much power they have (divine ranks), and a large holy war is beginning to brew that could threaten to wipe out many of the gods if not the entire pantheon. Now we need to bring about peace or find a way to do "damage control" or it could be the end of the world as we know it. Plus like I mentioned above what if they can't just tell their followers they are their gods and do not wish them to wage war? And also if I use the above the clerics believe the gods sanction this holy war based on obscure interpretations or manipulations of dogmas and plus they are still being granted their spells - so obviously they think the gods still favor their actions! Alien gods come to the world, and they are looking to absorb the power of the gods already here (like us) so now we have a god’s war coming... The barriers between the planes of existence (or dimensions for that matter) are breaking down; godly realms begin to fade away. And the Nine Hells are getting closer to the Inner Planes...Can the gods stop the demon hordes, when they are being lead by Powerful Infernals? And if they can, will they be able to repair the damage that was done to the great wheel? The Overlords vanish - The Overlords (Divine Ranks +21) seem to vanish (for FR players these are gods like Ao). The gods learn through some cryptic clues there might be some greater plane of existence outside the Outer Planes of existence. This secret was kept from the gods, and now they must find a way to get there to find out what happened to the Overlords before they are next (or their powers fade away - Because while followers give deities power perhaps the overlords are the conduit that sees to it that that energy finds its way to the right god). What if our characters (the lesser gods get there) and we have no powers thus making us just like mortals again, in a place of even greater power where the Overlords reign supreme? What if they have for some reason forgotten who the characters are and refuse to leave their realm and return? More so what if the mystery of what gives a god power is here, some magical site or powerful artifact that enables gods to exist on every plane of existence below this Greater Outer Plane? Uh well where this is going is basically a super-hero campaign. Where your ultimate goal is to protect your followers, fight off unfathomable evil, and save the entire multiverse, throw in the mysteries of the D&D Universe - and bang! I do need more ideas though. So if anyone as any ideas they can send my way I'd appreciate them! Let me know what you think of my ideas so far too, maybe you can help me fine tune them or help me put together a better pitch to give to my DM? Thanks! |
| Janusunaj03-24-07, 04:44 AM | Maybe the mage can have the portfolio of the wise use of magic, or the potency of spells, rather than just merely magic or something. |
| Reign_of_Ice03-24-07, 04:47 AM | Creative portfolios, for the deities themselves so they aren't just redredged previously existing archetypes? -That's a good idea, thanks Janusunaj |

| Reign_of_Ice03-25-07, 04:56 PM | Has anyone played gods in a game? If so how'd it go...just curious. |
| Prator_the_Legendary03-25-07, 05:02 PM | I haven't played a god myself, but I know plenty about beings with godlike power... Do you have a copy of Deities and Demigods? If not, I suggest you get one. Godly beings need godly enemies to fight. Everything else they can pwn into the dirt just by using god-powers and godly bonus feats such as those mentioned in DaD. They won't even have to fight. Also, gods are ludicrously hard to kill under the best of circumstances. Think of them as the strongest possible kind of outsider, and then break all their rules. You now have a good understanding of what Godhood is like. |
| green_yawgmoth03-26-07, 01:34 PM | I've played a god in a game once, it was extremely fun. Not a whole lot of combat, since SDAs like Life and Death make it pretty moot against non-deities. Fighting another god is pretty exciting, though. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| Kadrimdorian_Mage03-26-07, 03:23 PM | As a god, D&D adventures get too political for me. Why not posses the body of a mortal and help him do great deads in your name, at least until youv'e convinced him to help you out. If that fails, your new characters could worship your old party, or members of it. |
| Ace_of_time03-26-07, 10:50 PM | Does it count if one of your players just thought he was one. |
| Vrael03-26-07, 11:05 PM | Take over Hell. That's a fun one. |

It's how I eventually went from lesser to intermediate deity. Take over Hell. That's a fun one.Did this too, which is how I got enough divine energy to ascend in the first place. Orcus had a lot of that lying around. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| Ace_of_time03-27-07, 01:04 PM | Start your own church and play one of your own clerics. (1st level) |
| plasword04-01-07, 08:22 PM | :OMG! somebody actually saw sg-1? |
| Reign_of_Ice04-03-07, 03:41 AM | In our gaming group, one of my friends tells a story all the time about a game he once played in. His character had invented a god in order to get out of paying temple fees in some town, he told them he couldn't as he already had a god that he worshipped. Well he kept up the charade because a cleric was traveling with the group. One day he went to pay his bar tab but found it was paid for him, by someone with the name of his made-up god. Turned out the god was real, perhaps long forgotten. But very thankful for the renewed interest and eventually this character ended up being some sort of petitioner of this god. It's an interesting story... No seriously I started this thread to ask for plot/adventure ideas for god characters. The question isn't really if a group of gods "SHOULD" be played because the rules exist to play them. That's practically a license and written invitation as far as I'm concerned...I just wanted to see if anyone had plot/adventure ideas. Lemme know if any ideas strike ya... Thanks |
| Ace_of_time04-03-07, 11:18 AM | How about a war with one of the other gods. That should keep you busy for a while. |
| Praedoran04-03-07, 03:58 PM | I'm running a Part-Godly Campaign at the moment and here's the plotline of what they can expect: Endbringers. Avatars of the Prime Evils (Cthulu and the gang), have come to the Universe with the intent of destroying it, returning everything back to the chaos that it once was. This moves the campaign from the petty disputes of who this village should worship to we need to work together if we're going to stop them. The Endbringers have enough power to actually challenge an entire Pantheon, thus BBEGs. They can supercharge minions with divine power, form armies on the scale of hundreds of millions, and personally kill any player crazy enough to seek them out. Of course, my campaign's pretty complicated and there's more to this, but that's the gist. |
| green_yawgmoth04-03-07, 04:28 PM | Abominations are breaking free of their prisons and are killing lesser gods/demigods to amass power. If left unchecked, they will soon be a match for even a greater god. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
| StalkerEntreri04-03-07, 05:50 PM | Well; as for challenges you could start throwing divine ranks on enemies, like the Terrasque(sp) |
| feartheinvinceblehamster04-03-07, 06:34 PM | Even before Vecna ascended to godhood, he and Kas fought for hundreds of years. Yeah. Like that. A lot of it's gonna be roleplaying. Grab a prophet, start your faith, do some miracles, fight alongside your followers in an extremely awesome apocalyptic battle, that kind of thing. |
| Ace_of_time04-03-07, 06:38 PM | A lich has finely risen to god hood and is trying to find a way for all his buddies to come with him can they stop him in time or will the D&D world be turned upside down. Tune in next time same god time, same god channel. |
| Reign_of_Ice04-06-07, 02:25 AM | I've made a list of plot hooks and ideas and presented them to my DM, he is "considering" it. If anyone has any additional ideas or anything to contribute I'd really appreciate it, and thanks for everyone who's taken the time to help me out so far! -Thanks |
| green_yawgmoth04-06-07, 03:33 PM | The drow have found a way to nleash their deity's heralds, the devestation spiders. stop them before they release a spidery blight upon the world! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v91/yawgmoth/kittyjig.gif |
