| mcnoo04-25-07, 09:45 AM | These threads are quite lovely, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and share my own considerable expertise. Let's get the ball rolling, I'm Mockery, thief extraordinaire. Don't go screamin' now though, just 'cause I'm a drow don't mean I'm a baby eatin' monster. Either way, I'm up here on the surface 'cause apparently the church of Lolth was quite attatched to the silverware I somewhat pocketed and I felt it might be prudent t' make meself scarce. Now I'd heard the surface lands were a tad soft, but the description didn't do it justice. Huge juicy cities just ripe for the picking. Donning my favourite hat of disguise and a fancy new moniker, I carved out a scallywag's empire in the heart of human society. Oh the tales I could tell... |

| mcnoo04-25-07, 10:03 AM | Do you find that your natural abilities as a Drow and your experience with the underdark make you a better rogue than many others? Yep, although I prefer the term "thief extraordinaire" In what ways?? There's no room for fools down there, they breed us smart and they keep us on our toes. Plus I have less problems with a moral issues my less mentally equipped contemporaries suffer from. Do you miss the underdark? I don't think that even the folks who rule the place like it. Let's face it, the views are less than impressive, the neighbours aren't ideal and you can't get bacon for love nor money down there. You surface types have a pretty good deal. |
| Mindolin04-25-07, 10:12 AM | Why aren't you a baby-eating monster? Why limit yourself on the terrors you can inflict upon the poor fools of the surface? You can bet that the baby-eating part would get their attention. |

You can bet that the baby-eating part would get their attention. Attention brings large numbers of angry men with pitchforks and flaming torches. Not that I couldn't handle them, but it just wouldn't accomplish anything. Besides, I'm more partial to gammon. |
| spectralphoenix04-25-07, 10:54 AM | So is archery really a decent choice for the serious rogue? Unless you're packing a lot of invisibility potions or have some training as a Shadowdancer or the like, the only time you can get a decent shot in is the first few seconds of combat. After that you're stuck plinking away while everyone else does the fighting, or spending as much time on some gimmick to slip out of view as you are attacking. And hit-and-run tactics might do alright for any loner types out there, but those of us dragging a party around with us find they get impatient if you want to run off and ambush the foe again and again, even if they could while dragging all that armor around. |

Depends on the situation. I wouldn't reccomend specializing in it because, as you say, it's far too limiting, but it's always useful to have something ranged at hand. Something like a wizard. I prefer to charge straight in and flank the foes while the big tough warrior type constantly shouts at them to draw their attention from me. Stabbity slice, and someone's got a blade in their spine, usually not me. Wands are the rogues friend, just occasionally you're going to reall need some decent ranged damge and don't want to waste your time leaning to shoot straight, just for that moment, just keep a wand of fireball up your sleeve. Literally, up your sleeve, they're perfect for it. |
| Prator_the_Legendary04-25-07, 03:54 PM | 1. I know, fighters are not impressive compared to primary casters. I can live with that, because it means fighters are still superior in AMF. But how well do fighters compare to other combat classes? 2. I'm told that Incarnum classes suck/don't scale well/are useless/can't do anything another class couldn't do better. How much of that is true? 3. If you succeed in a grapple, can to pin in the same round? And once a person is pinned, can you "silence" them in same round they were pinned? Can grapple, pin, and silence in one move? |
| Pippa04-25-07, 04:00 PM | Say Mockery, I heard lots of girls (and the softer boys) really dig drow these times. Do you notice anything of this or is it overrated? ... Or are you some ugly sonnoma*****, like what's his name again, the one with the feathered hat... |

Can grapple, pin, and silence in one move? 3 - You can't do it all in one move, but you can do it in one round as long if you have two or more attacks (and can win the opposed checks.) Entering a grapple takes one attack and pinning takes one attack. Silencing isn't an action; you can choose to do it while you pin. I have no idea what the first two have to do with the art and science of being a rogue, and think you might be more likely to get answers for them if you asked them in an appropriate thread or created your own, rather than repeatedly asking them in threads on different subjects. |
| Prator_the_Legendary04-25-07, 04:33 PM | I didn't get the impression that this thread was rogue-exclusive. As to where I posted my questions... The first thread was simply the wrong place. The second thread doesn't consistently have anyone in it to answer, unless a random passerby chooses to do so. |

Well, I don't like to boast, but I'm quite astoundingly attactive in my own right, so I couldn't really vouch for how other drow fare as a whole. |
