| Samual8205-24-07, 06:03 PM | the game i play in has become some stupid contest of wills and no longer fun, everyones logic, vs the dm's(two of them, a couple, and yes they have characters in their own game). unless a rule is laid out in the most basic of basic ways, ie 1 + 1 = 2, they'll make a house rule, and there is favouritism, but only towards the guys character. oh how i hate houserules therefore, i need to know about the warlock invocation Dark Foresight, what should a Player have to do, what should a player have to expect, what should a dm have to do/expect. because at the moment the arguement is that all the foresight actully does is confer the insight bonus, i suppose if a situation occurs that the warlock gets targetted i might be able to argue a warning, but you know, i have the sneaking feeling that unless the targeter is intelligent, then there will be no such warning, and an arguement about wether the spell forsee's things from peoples minds or from seeing through time... blah blah |
| Samual8205-24-07, 06:20 PM | Question, big uilding, 4 stories, outer walls are stone, inner walls are wood a large character, barbarian with silence cast on him (5 ft radius thingy), decides to charge through a wall on the 3rd story.... now I know theres gonna be noise, but in the magical land of D&d, could i get some assorted explainations as to what occurs?, pleas note the whole building is full of hostile rogues |
| Samual8205-24-07, 06:24 PM | actually the biggest question i have to ask, before all the snide people jump in and suggest it is it worth it?, to rescue, or to quit and just grow out of D&D has been a good game for about 6 months, maybe a year i think, just getting sour now and all this sourness is turning me into that horrible player that always seems to munch and want want want, roleplaying itself has been overshadowed here |

I suggest finding another one (even if they are your, otherwise, friends). That said, it is a game and if you aren't enjoying it (or can't) then don't play! |

That said, it is a game and if you aren't enjoying it (or can't) then don't play! QFT. Don't argue, don't fight with them, just shrug your shoulders and leave. You walking out is the one argument they cannot counter or house-rule. If enough other players do so, they might get the hint. Have you considered DMing yourself, by the way? |
| Samual8205-25-07, 04:39 AM | haha, bit corny but i have a full time job, and a full time lovelife, just like to play dnd aswell sometimes, i used to be pretty good at dming, but that was when i lacked those 2 major things in my life. anyway opinions noted, and now for the sake of theory, coul i get those two questions answered, the one about dark foresight and the other about the large babarian walking through walls in a multistoried building while under a 5ft zone of silence(cmon it's gotta make a huge damn noise) |
| Toloran05-25-07, 01:21 PM | Dark Forsight works (almost) exactly like the spell. As such it does the following (all the rest is fluff and should be ignored as such): If it is cast on yourself: * You cannot be caught flat footed. * You get a +2 insight bonus to AC and Reflex Saves * You get a general idea of potential dangers (specifically, how to protect yourself). If it is cast on someone else: * You get a general idea of potential dangers to the subject. Now, on what kind of insight you would get for that last part (the potential dangers): If the TARGET is in potential or probable danger, then you would get a brief warning (sometimes specific, sometimes vague. It depends on the situation). Examples: * A wyvern is flying overhead and is about to swoop down and attack you. You get a warning that says "Look Up." * A trap is about to cut you in half, you get the warning "Duck." * You are in an Inn with your party, and an old enemy is about to enter and will attack you if he sees you and your party. You get a warning "Head back to your room." The hints do not say what the danger is, all they do is give suggestions on a course of action that will avoid the danger. However, the suggestsions are on how to protect the subject of the spell, not your whole party. So sometimes (not usually, requires a very specific circumstance) a suggestion might help the subject but endanger the rest of the party. As to the barbarian and the silence area: No sound would happen. However, any damage he would do would be clearly visible (since even with a strong barbarian, he probably isn't going to break through in one hit). As such, anything on the opposite side would probably see the damage and know he is comming (sound or not). |
| Samual8205-26-07, 01:25 AM | ok, well thats how i thought i was defined aswell, thank you, i just needed it explained out by someone who can probably find their ass with a map, cause the dm wont trust my interpretations... contest of wills, i'm always right(never been wrong yet), it's ******* them off, they can jolly well kiss something unpleasant, cause i'm not unpleasant about it the arguement about the barbarian is an old one anyway, but the thing is when you knock down a wall then people standing on the floor within 20-30 meters would feel it, at least one story up and one story down aswell, especially if that was a supporting wall. but i conceed to another fellows opinion that the silence spell nullifies vibration itself, or at least the frequencies that create waves into the air that can be heard by a human ear |
| Samual8205-26-07, 01:29 AM | ahh with the second example, how it tells you to duck, does this give you a move equivolent action worth of time before the event is to happen?, or is the warning 'duck' the thing that confers the insight bonus? so in actual fact i dont really have to get a warning should the dm be too lazy and just gte the insight bonus? |
| Yokomohoyo05-26-07, 06:52 AM | haha, bit corny but i have a full time job, and a full time lovelife, just like to play dnd aswell sometimes, i used to be pretty good at dming, but that was when i lacked those 2 major things in my life. Sorry to get back off track, but the major problem again is with your DM's. I myself have a full time life (8hrs work, 8 hrs studing, 4hrs GF, 4hrs sleep) and I still take twice a month to either DM or game (two DM's running seprate campaines with the same players). Since my DM also has a full time life (work and wife) we take turns DMing the same story line, what we did was we created two partys and each of the partys belong to a militia elliet task force (sort of like a s.w.a.t. team) and each party is sent on diffrent missions against the same BBEG's forces. So not to spoil our fun the one that is DMing plays in the others story line, we have yet to figure out what is going to happen when we have to take down the BBEG... So anyways if you dont have time for a full story plot then talk to one of your players and ask him or her (wichever the case may be) and plan to run a story inbetween both of you. You'll DM the First and Third week of every month and s/he will DM the Second and Fourth week. That way you can take your time to plan out your session with calm (having 2 weeks inbetween each game leaves space for life and good game planning). |
| Samual8205-26-07, 08:50 PM | 10 hours for work, 2 of those are travel, an hour maybe an hour and a half extra in the morning to iron clothes, eat breakfast, have a shower, brush teeth, shave(office job). plus another half an hour to shower after work, thats 12 hours devoted to work, then maybe 2 hours every afternoon devoted to a workout, and thats it for my day. the only time is on weekends and as you can imagine i treasure my weekends, so distracting posts aside. can i get an answer to that question? with the second example, how it tells you to duck, does this give you a move equivolent action worth of time before the event is to happen?, or is the warning 'duck' the thing that confers the insight bonus? so in actual fact i dont really have to get a warning should the dm be too lazy, and i could just get the insight bonus?(because the warning would be fluff)(haha or heres another twist, i get the warning but if i dont act appropriately then i dont get the insight bonus?, lvl nine spells rock!!!, i can just see the dm twisting it that way) |

The reason no one else would get the bonus is because of the delay between you learning, you telling the person, and them acting. In any case, if you cast the spell on yourself you always get the bonus (acting appropriately doesn't make a difference). |
| Ayra05-26-07, 10:32 PM | The DM should really use his Rule 0 skills and state that everything he says is permanent and may only be discussed at the end of the session. We had really a lot of discussions in our group about how certain things were handled. Rather than arguing with the DM, it's much better to play exactly by the book and leave any rule interpretation over to the DM. If players end up having problems with the decisions a DM makes, they can contact him before or after the session and have a discussion about it then. But they should never forget that whatever the DM decides is final. Granted that the DM needs to make sure his players won't get unhappy about the decision to a point where they can't enjoy the game anymore. As a new DM I often also ask my players if a skill check would be appropriate in a certain situation when something random happens (usually I come prepared!). Most of my players already have DMed or have mastered the rules to some extent, specifically so on the level of the class they are playing and are open to helping me out. So in the end it's just the DM that needs to ask his players to stop discussions around the table and just enjoy the game :o |
