| Shinryouga04-14-06, 05:31 PM | Post your tributes to the great DMs you have had or currently are having the privilege of playing with! This is just my little attempt at putting a small dose of positive energy into the boards. I know a lot of people have terrible DMs, and I've played under a few myself, but let's not frighten the Newbies with all these horror stories and nothing about the joys we have at the table. So, to kick it off: I tribute my DM, for running an awesome Age of Worms Campaign, it started off rocky, but its a complex campaign and this was his first time DMing anything bigger than a one shot hack and slash. This last session was just great, we got a wonderfully even dose of role-playing, combat, Stewie got to buy a horse big enough to ride (half-ogre ranger), Kor got to sell her hyperactive horse to a courier because she felt bad about keeping it in the city while we adventured there. Cyric the paladin got to get an elven aristocrat's address after rescuing her from dopplegangers(bow-chicka-bow-wow). Dage the were-housecat spelltheif busted a move with his rapiers on said dopplegangers, and Nevil the kobold sorc showed the two invisible stalkers beating the crap out of Kor that you dont need to see things to hit them with fireballs. The party came together more as a team, and we tore through the first half of a long adventure in one session. It was a great game by our DM (Golem99) and it left us remembering it fondly, and anxiously awaiting the next session to see if we can make it even more fun! Just my two coppers. |
| gorfnad the shiznit04-15-06, 03:07 AM | Well, My favorite dm is Aramek (check out my sig for Blue Mage Core Class, his creation). He's a really fun guy with strange yet honest political views and is able to tell a great story. He is also able to create different voices for npcs and other characters and his spellcasting system is one I've copied into my campaigns. Three cheers for Aramek! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: |
| King_Bulba04-15-06, 03:44 AM | My favorite DM is SMRTGMP that posts on the boards from time to time. He may dislike Sacramento but I dont hold it against him hehe. A  for him. |
| Archangel6204-15-06, 05:39 AM | A friend and I tend to rotate as GMs for the games. What he does is he looks over character backstories, he has been known to sometimes give special bonuses to the characters or access to things. Many DMs have a tendency abduct the family members or assualt family members and friends of the party and it seems to be mostly there because they can't come up with a story concept. He might do that to you every now and again, however we also introduced legacy items, for example Exordius or the Holy Avenger to a paladin whose father had died and sent his son the family heirloom. He was also willing to try almost anything in terms of what a player was going for and would reward crazy if it worked, if you failed you got hurt bad. |
| Necropolitan04-15-06, 02:58 PM | Best DM ever was my brother in law, Tyler. He did some amazing things to make the game more interesting, not only was he a novelist-level writer, but he was bloody hialrious - nothing is funnier then D20 adapted Monty Python quotes "NOBODY EXPECTS THE ZHENATIRUM!" He also was a phenominally understanding DM, if I had a character I couldn't seem to make fit with the base classes, he'd often take the time to actually MAKE me a unique class to fit with my character's storyline, and usually had some good abilitys. All in all, Ty was the best DM ever, with some truly mmeorable and well-played DMPC's, Yes I know everyone seems to hate DMPCS, but damn he was good at them, they seemed like another run of the mill player character, and not he goldy avatar of incarnate asskickery (Crpies, his elven ranger DMPC reguarly got more jacked up then anyone else) So here's to Tyler Coleman, best DM ever. |
| Shinryouga04-15-06, 04:30 PM | First off, thanks all, this is exactly what I wanted for this thread! Keep it up everyone, and don't forget to pop one off on the Player's Version (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=621852) of this thread. Thanks! And here's another to keep the ball rolling: I tribute my wife Anna, for being not only an excellent DM who, IMHO, truly knows the feel of "classic" D&D despite being only a 3rd edition-onward player. I love how she can surprise me with a plot turn, and I consider myself one of the most jaded people in the world plot-wise, but she proves that I haven't "seen it all" yet. And here's to her DMness being so rampant that she Co-DMs even when I dont ask. To my players, its her fault the next campaign will be the love child of Planescape and Kingdom Hearts. Just my two coppers. |
| Deris_Kharlan04-15-06, 04:41 PM | My favorite DM is Roger. I didn't really get all of his campaign stuff because I was a noob at that time. But now, I see that he was magnificent. He did tend to spoil his players, though. He had a campaign with warring dragons and minotaurs, and I don't remember much else about it, but it was great. It was also the first time I played Dnd. If you read this Roger, you are awesome. |
| Bill Bisco: Average Adventurer04-16-06, 01:11 AM | Let me tribute this to My Friend Matt Blackstock. He was really my first DM and one of the best DMs that I'll ever have. I got to be the Servant and Champion of a Fire God, I got to be a Two-Handed Sword Weilding Asian Warrior Trapped in the Underdark, I got to be the Grandson of Bane and fight with Iyachtu Xvim. I got to be a comical Necromancer. I got to be a Tinker Gnome and travel to the Sailor Moon, DBZ, and Star Wars Universes lol! I got to be a Powerful warrior betrayed by someone close to him. I got to be a Vampire named Gort with a Werewolf Bride. I actually got to have Romances! It was soo amazing looking back. This was better than Baldur's Gate! I don't know how he did it. But, it was great. The Best Adventures I had as a player were during those years. I truly thank you Matt, wherever you are. |
