Well my character hasn't come back from the dead, but I hope she will one day. Her soul is currently trapped on a plane that is covered in nothing but rubies. Each ruby is permanently scrying on a person in the world. There are millions of rubys. The only way for her to get out is for someone to take her place. There is a room under a tower where she can come into etheral form and talk or attack creatures. She cannot leave that room though. Maybe some hundreds of years in the future she will get out?

My first character was a sorcerer with a necromantic bent. We had managed to raise a lesser Balor to deityhood (and semi-atone his evil) as the God of Balance (he was more NE than NG, but he was still N). Well, our god gave us powers, and liked us, since we were basically his main men. Oh, we were also level three. My first DM was a bit over the top with giving us power, but we all had fun and we still were challenged, so it's okay. Anyway, I was exploring some old ruins and discovered a deep catacomb filled with necromantic labs. I found a nifty book with all kinds of instructions for caring for zombies and stuff. I got to the bottom and fount a large, black sphere floating unattended. My detect magic (he used it a bit differently) had sensed a dark magic deeper down. I inspected it, looking around and studying it. Finally, I touched it. ****!!! It turned into a beholder. I pretty much thought I was toast, but I had a bunch of exploding potions (again, he was really into powering us up) and was able to pop a few off before the walls were too flimsy to take anymore. I stabbed it a time or two with my spear, took an artery-opening wound (this was 3.0, but he was also big on common sense houserules) and managed to kill it by thrusting my spear into it's main eye (he gave me a double critical threat range or something like that) and I killed it with nothing but a couple alchemist's fire on crack, some good saves, and my trusty +1 Shortspear. Well, before my raven got back up to warn everyone else (I sent him up at the geginning of combat), I bled to death. ****, again!! I blacked out and woke up in the presence of none other than Axratyn, God of Balance. He welcomed me to death, and basically informed me that it was not yet my time to leave. In this spirit, he granted one of my character's greatest desires. Enter Sol'Kanar, lord of the dead, and most powerful arch-lich in the multiverse (well, he wasn't quite that powerful.. yet). Dan (my DM) just popped me up to 11th level and gave me all the stuff in the MM lich template. I was one happy camper. After a year of both storywriting and actually playing, he is now an ECL 25 (21 HD) Sorcerer/Fighter/Spellsword, who is by far my favroite NPC to introduce to my players. He is in every single campaign, whether as a legend or a primary NPC. He's a CG lich, too. I have yet to change his spellsword to the 3.5 spellsword, though.

Oh, and on another note, kudos to my DM, for he made us super-overpowered and managed ot challenge us and we STILL had fun.
