I had a question, My wife is running a Gnome Illusionist in our new game. We were told to come up w/creative backgrounds about our character. Well, she is stuck! She can't really think of anything real good. Do you all have any ideas for her?!?! Our DM promised something magical weapon wise if we come up w/creative backgrounds for our characters. Thanks!!!

You could try the character development boards. That's what they are for.

The best I can come up with is to have the character as some sort of travelling entertainer, maybe in a circus, or as a solo artist, who delights in using her powers of illusion to entertain local children.

If you are playing a low level character (hence not many spells per day) there's no harm in spending the first round of every combat carefully studying the opposition.

She could maybe even sketch them (to steal an idea - I think it was Blaine Tog's but apologies to both parties if it wasn't!)

This will give her a better chance of incorporating the monster into a future illusion, will help to conserve spells, and will give the rest of the party endless aggravation.

Illusionist is the favored class for gnomes so a background explaining why she's an illusionist would be easy to come up with and thus not deserve bonus EQ. Try to give the DM something they can work with for campaign plots or treat it like a home work assignment (two full pages, double spaced). Try to focus on things like why she desided to be an adventurer in the first place and if she has some ultimate goal in mind (like finding a lost family relic). Think of it this way: Why would a bard sing a song about you? To borrow an idea from amethal, she's traveling in a circus when you first meet her, but only doing so as a front to gather info from local townsfolk about why her mother was killed by an unknown assasin.
