Bad DM or Bad Player? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-28-07, 10:24 PM I was wondering what to do about DM's who favor other players becuase i've had 2 bad experiences and i want to know if this is what it is going to be like for the rest of my gaming days?:weep:

03-28-07, 10:44 PM All I can say is that DMs are as varied as players. Some you get along with in terms of playing style, some not. Sometimes they outright favor other players, sometimes you just feel that they do.

It probably won't be that way if you keep looking for a DM that you mesh well with.

03-28-07, 10:48 PM The best way to powergame isnt mechanical

its to play the character your dm wishes he was playing

find out if what your playing is something they just dont like, and find out what they do like...if you dont really care what you play this might fix your problem.

If you do care, then you need a new dm, u may also need a new dm if its bc s/he prefers the other ppl not there characters.

03-29-07, 10:29 AM Well, obviously I don't have the details of your situation, but in a group I used to play with the houserule was if you died and had to make a new character, you would take the average party level, lets say 8 subtract 2 which would be 6 and then roll a d4. So you could end up at 10 with a lucky roll or be 7 with a bad roll.

As you are upset, I would assume the DM just said you died in a cool way, add a couple levels to your next character? Which I would not like either. I would probably mention to the DM and player that doesn't seem "fair" to the group and/or ask for an explanation as to why he has extra levels.

The real question is are you having fun? If yes, then ask for some clarification about what is going on. If you like the answer, good. If not, ask yourself if it will effect your enjoyment of the game from now on.

If you aren't having fun, why are you playing with them to begin with?

D&D is a game, games are for having fun. Some people like the numbers, some people like the story, and some people just like the social getting together with friends. The bottom line is that if you are a player, find a DM that makes the game fun for you. They do exist.

03-29-07, 06:39 PM Hey good idea for the campaign i was working on to make up fro the group i quit. Reason for quitting just called the DM told me to lvl 4 times because the party had just done it yesterday(thinking to self OUCH).:weep:
