| InnKeeper03-22-05, 08:06 PM | In a game im currently playing our DM has captured 4 of my party members! and now only me (A level 10 wizard) and my friend who is a level 9 dwarfen fighter is left! We think they have been taken to a Assassin guild down in a well populated city ruled by a evil baron. We figure we have five game days to free them because of the King is coming for who knows what. And whenever im in that city i cant cast any of my importent spells that could help me free them easy! there are patrol gaurds scouting the city in pairs of six which i dont think we have a chance of taking down. and i have no clue on whats inside the guild! So what should we do? A.Leave them there to die and live to fight another day? B.Sneak into the city and try to save them (and maybe be caought) C.Grab a group of locals who dont agree with the baron or the king and try a rebel? D.Or just rampage the city and start knocking heads off? Not many good choices huh... if you have any good advice please reply. |
| Templetroll03-22-05, 08:37 PM | B.Sneak into the city and try to save them (and maybe be caought) C.Grab a group of locals who dont agree with the baron or the king and try a rebel? . B is the way to go, with modified C - Grab a group of locals that don't like assassins in their midst. Are any of those held of a race that might get help from fellow members of that race? talk to a temple if a cleric is being held. You have time to find some info, and apparently have an idea where your friends are being held. Use that. prediction - The assassins may be up to something involving the King's visit. Look for your friends to be used as distraction or patsies. |
| InnKeeper03-22-05, 09:05 PM | So what your saying is get rebels than have them distract whoever than charge into an assassins guild to free my allies? A bit crazy but it may still not work :P thanks though ill try that and see how it gose out... i'll post back with the ancwer |
| Gauze Fireforge03-22-05, 09:06 PM | Half your problems stem from your lack of knowledge in the situation you have given. Remember, divinations are your friend :) A couple of memmed arcane eye's would go somewhat to narrowing down important locations and possibly things within the guild. Also a scrying check on a party member with a low will save is also a good means in trying to locate where your party is located. Also locate creature or locate object on a distinct creature (maybe a party member is the only air genasi around or a locate object on a distinct item can further yeild helpful information. Hope that helps...I do like the whole try to set up a distraction with a protest or rebellion thereby enabling a window of opportunity. |
| InnKeeper03-22-05, 09:10 PM | But as i said before i cant cast my spells! i tryed scrying but the DM says all i see is fuzzy nothingness. And all my friend is thinking is charge in and kill the Well armed gaurds and assassins.... hes a bit crazy... |
| InnKeeper03-22-05, 09:21 PM | So have any of you been in this situation before? How could i help my dwarfen companion if i cant cast any spells. I May have the staff of Maginus (Custom item 1d8+2) i still would not have much strength in battle because i have 22 life... i wasnt so lucky on the life rolls. i really need a good plan because i dont think the group of assassins would help the gaurds with a rebel... and the assassins are my main problem. Signed, A wizard in a lot of trouble... |
| Raven's Aprentice03-22-05, 10:59 PM | is it only your divination spells that fail. because if that is the case the problem could be a mordenkainen's private sanctum over wherever they are I doubt they could have an antimagic field over the whole town but it could be over the prison where they being held. the rebel distration combined with prison break in seems like the best idea. unfortunatly you can't jus nuke everything you want (black mage from 8-bit theatre anyone?) |
| Jelstan03-22-05, 10:59 PM | Looks like you're in a pretty bad situation. Ever watch any Macgyver? Duct tape and a Eberron Army knife and your wits.. that's all you need. Seriously though, I think you need some insider help for sure. Knowing the layout of the place would help, where your friends are being held. Maybe an old fashioned disguise. Armed with the previous knowledge and you'll have a fighting chance. Who knows maybe you can disable whatever is keeping you from casting. |

A bit crazy but it may still not work :P thanks though ill try that and see how it gose out... i'll post back with the ancwer As was mentioned above, the scrying block is not likely over the whole city. Can you find the location, like which building or block that is being protected? Go to the authorities or a temple of good; I don't know enough about your campaign to give more precise advice. See if the dwarf can rally some other dwarves in town to help him rescue his friends. Is there a mage guild in town? Again, are the captured characters associated with the govenrment or a temple that might be interested in helping rescue them? Watch "Big Trouble in Little China". The first time the two heroes go into the bad guys lair it was with a lot of BSing (Bluff checks) and knowing when to run. It is not impossible for the two of you to succeed at this, but it won't be easy. We'll be looking forward to hearing how it goes. |
| Gargs45403-23-05, 12:08 AM | In addition to recruiting help to cause a distraction, you can also recruit help for the actual prisonbreak. Some of the people would be used for a distraction, but a couple of the more powerful recruits could travel with you and the dwarf to help out the two of you. Additionally, if the anticipated death of your friends is to coincide with the arrival of the King, then there is at least a decent chance that their deaths will be in some way public. Killing them in the privacy of their own cells can be done at anytime and does not depend on the arrival of the King. Try to feel out some information as to what the assassins plan to do with your friends. If it turns out that they are to be part of some public ceremony or public attack, that might be your best chance to free them. After all the hardest part (getting them out of their prison) will have already been done for you. Think of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves when they rescue to band of merry men that was to be executed. |
