Bag of Holding and PHB2 Shapeshift [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-16-08, 01:05 PM (PHB2 Druid alternative to Wildshape)

We're planning some way to infiltrate a major BBEG corporation, or so we think...

One of our plans was to get several bottles of air and large bag of holding, all the characters get into the bag except the druid. The druid holds on to the bag, and then shapeshifts into aerial form and flies into the enemy base.

The only problem is, we're not sure what would happen to the Bag of Holding. Shapeshift says that all items held meld into you and become nonfunctional. Basically it depends on the specific function of the Bag of Holding. If the Bag of Holding simply opens up into the nondimensional space than when it becomes nonfunctional it stops opening into the space and when it becomes refunctional it opens into it again. However if it also creates the nondimensional space then when it becomes nonfunctional it ceases to create the nondimensional space and all contained items (the rest of the party in this case) are irretrievably lost.

So, which is it?

02-16-08, 01:09 PM If the latter were true (all items irretrievably lost) a druid could never wildshape with a bag of holding with anything in it and have it come out the other side.

02-18-08, 02:13 AM 1) Buy hamster.

2) Insert hamster into said bag of holding.

3) Test theory.

4) If said hamster still exists, return to seller for refund or store credit.

02-24-08, 10:47 PM I would think you would treat it as an antimagic field. For the duration that it's melded into the druid's body, the extradimensional space continues to exist, but the entrance to it (the opening of the bag of holding) is cut off.

Magic items with continuous effects, such as a bag of holding, do not function in the area of an antimagic effect, but their effects are not canceled (so the contents of the bag are unavailable, but neither spill out nor disappear forever).

That's how we handled my druid with a Heward's Handy Haversack, anyway.
