Edited to add: Nevermind, I see now that I need at least a +1 to make it a Bane weapon. I suppose the +1 enhancement bonus from being MW does not count for this?

So I want a Bane (Undead) spiked chain. The spiked chain I am starting with does not have any magical enhancement (+0 weapon). So my question:

Does Bane give +1 normally, and +3 v. undead? This is what the description implies but seems pretty cheap (everyone who buys a +1 enhancement should by a Bane quality instead)

or does Bane give +0 normally and =2 v. undead?

Thanks,
ap

No, masterwork doesn't count toward allowing weapon abilities. You need a +1 magical enhancement first.

And Bane is noneffective against enemies that aren't the bane target. A +1 undead bane weapon is just +1 against non-undead and +3 (with an extra 2d6) against undead.

Before you can put on any extra enchantments onto a weapon, it must be AT LEAST a +1 Magic weapon. The MW property does not give it a +1 Magic status, only +1 bonus to hit, which doesn't stack with magic.

As to the Bane, yep, if you have a +1 Bane Undead Sword, against undead it would count as +3 Magical Sword and deal 2d6 extra damage. Against anything not undead it's a +1 Sword. Hopes that helps

Right on. Thanks guys!

btw, I've named it the Corpsebane War-Chain.

Let me add that constructing a weapon out of a magical material (adamantium, mythral, darkwood, etc) although it may give the weapons +1 to certain abilities, doesn't count as a requirement for giving the weapon special enchantments.

I've made this mistake myself before, so I thought I'd point it out.
