| BoneCrusher36901-26-06, 09:44 PM | ok well I am running a Half Orc Barbarian and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to make my character better I'll appreciate the feedback |
| Merlain01-27-06, 02:05 AM | Give him 10 levels in soul eater, then make him a vampire. or... whatever. {shrug} :P |
| Dhavaer01-27-06, 02:12 AM | Some more specific information would be helpful, so for now I will just say: make him a bear warrior. |
| Silverthumb12801-27-06, 02:55 AM | Multiclassing Fighter is both core and hardcore at the same time, if that's up your alley. :D And you can try even just a level in Berserk from Deities & Demigods, so you can get a little 'umph' to abilities the barb already has, without really going out of your way. Worth a look, at the least. |
| Araciel01-27-06, 03:07 AM | well you could say he is more than just a half orc barbarian for one thing was he raised by humans or orcs or someone else? was he raised in a city or the wild? did he learn to rage naturally, through rituals, or otherwise? does he travel to seek fortune, find himself, is he running from someone? |
| BoneCrusher36901-27-06, 10:37 AM | He was raised by a tribe of Orcs until banished because he was different and he learned rage naturally from his Orc Blood and he's trying to prove himself worthy to his tribe by killing as much stuff as he can sorry if it isnt a good description I kinda just like started playing lol :D |
| Radijs01-27-06, 10:47 AM | Fighter/barbarian seems straight up that alley. But you'll have a lot more luck at the character optimization boards on this forum. |
| BoneCrusher36901-27-06, 11:25 AM | any suggestions to use for weapons I am currently using a great axe but if I use this I cant have a shield at the same time so anyone know if any high damage one handed weapons I could use? so I can increase my pretty low AC |
| starfire31101-27-06, 11:27 AM | ok, char op boards might be best for you, but it gets scary in there sometimes. My RPGA Dwarf Barb is Level 4 barb/level 4 Fighter. Picked up WF/Power Attack/Weapon Spec with my fighter feats. My homebrewed game barbarian is barb 4/Fighter 2/ Champion of gwynnharff 1 or however you spell it. IMO the champion is the best barbarian PrC around it can be found in the book of exalted deeds. |
| starfire31101-27-06, 11:29 AM | any suggestions to use for weapons I am currently using a great axe but if I use this I cant have a shield at the same time so anyone know if any high damage one handed weapons I could use? so I can increase my pretty low AC Statistically speaking great sword is better than great axe, and that is what I use in my protest of the unfair treatment of the great axe. I have asked DMs before if I could just have a great axe witht he same stats as a great sword and they always say no, so I even though I don't like the flavor I go with the great axe. |
| BoneCrusher36901-27-06, 11:35 AM | but still isnt the great sword two handed? I need a strong one handed weapon so I can use a shield so I can make my AC higher |
| 2nd Ed Paladin01-27-06, 11:55 AM | I'm assuming your character has a high strength so you get more benefit out of that strength by using a 2 handed weapon as your strength bonus is multiplied by 1.5 when using a 2H weapon. If you are adamant on using a sheild then the bastard sword is the best 1 handed core weapon for a strength based character, it however requires an extra feat (exotic weapon prof). If the extyra feat is not an option either a longsword or a warhammer is likely your best bet. Personally I would say forget the AC, get power attack, use a greatsword (high crit range). You get more benefit out of your strength and rage this way. Remember the best defense is a good offense. Mechanically my thought process is when deciding what mellee style to use is as follows: Strength based character - 2 handed, power attack Dex based character - 2 weapon style, damage made up by extra attack constitution based - sword and board (shield) Hope that hekps |
| Rowan_Whispercloak01-27-06, 11:59 AM | Could you please define "better"? If you want more damage this I would advise a visit to the Character Optimization Board. If you want some more roleplaying inspiriation check the Character Development Board. If anything else go with anything that helps strengthen the image of the character in your mind. Try to take feat/class level that have a "proper" feel to them. Only you can decide what truly fits your character. |
| BoneCrusher36901-27-06, 12:01 PM | alright I think Ill take that advice, yeah my strength is high i rolled a 17 and being an orc get a +2 and my reg bonus so thanks |
| Sir Knight01-27-06, 03:03 PM | You can always con your DM into letting you take Frenzied Berserker. Make a lot of use of Power Attack and Cleave/Great Cleave. Take the Rage feats in Complete Warrior. Read over some of the feats in Races of Destiny. There is a Half-Orc only feat that allows you to use a Rage attempt to gain your Str bonus (including mods for Rage/Frenzy) to your next Will save. If you are a Frenzied Berserker you will almost ALWAYS pass your Will save as long as you have Extra Rages left over. So take "Extra Rage" a few times. I have never seen damage output compared to Thok. His str when in Rage/Frenzy is in the mid-30s and if you power attack with his greataxe and Improved Power attack... WOW. He can take almost anything by himself that closes in melee range. In the final battle in the Standing Stone he fought all 40+ peasants by himself. He killed six to nine at a time due to great cleave. It was really neat. |

FBs are game ruining PrCs, that have a good chance of killing party memebr eveytime they frenzy, even if you need a 2+ to succeed on your will save that is a 1 in 20 chance of killing at least 1 party member odds are you will kill more since itis the end of a fight and they may be at low HP and you may be in huge negatives due to deathless frenzy. You may kill the entire party with your great cleaving madness then fall dead when the frenzy ends. |
| halforchero01-28-06, 02:56 AM | Half orcs are cool because they come with good moral dilimas . If I was doing him I would make him not trust anybody canuse he been burned . He thinks that the only way he will get his respect is if he kills for it . If you have a girl adventure in your party he could try to get her attention. You got to realize your playing with a person with a very short fuse and a simple coment can be sombodys death wish . |
| Dhavaer01-28-06, 03:03 AM | With a strength of 23 while raging, a falchion would be worthwhile. Once your bonus damage hits a certain point (I believe it's +7) the extra criticals outweigh the slightly lower base damage. At 23 Str your bonus damage with a 2-handed weapon is +9. Grab a falchion. |
| Elemental_Elf01-28-06, 04:38 AM | You can always wear a buckler! You can still use the great axe with a buckler on, though with a -1 to attack rolls. But hey, atleast when you aren't attacking you have a shield bonus! :D |
