| TalonofTiamat12-09-05, 09:55 PM | I'm looking for a good prestiege class for a half-ogre barbarian. I would use the Frenzied Berserker, but I so far have none of the feats required and am 5th level (ECL 7). Any good advice? |
| ^Graff_EpsilonIX12-09-05, 09:59 PM | Well, there's always forsaker. What feats do you have and what type of character are you looking for? |
| Jager Mage12-09-05, 10:03 PM | Refresh my memory..half ogre is large size, right? |
| TalonofTiamat12-09-05, 10:10 PM | Half-ogre is indeed large, Jager Mage. Feats thus far are only Quick Draw and 2 Weapon Fighting. I was looking for something to enhance either 2 weapon fighting or raging might. Also, off topic question. How do you change your Location thing next to your name. |
| Feor12-10-05, 12:36 AM | Just because Half-Ogre would be one of the few PC-able races that could access it, I'd be tempted to grab the Hulking Hurler PrC from CWar. Then see if you can get a small char in your party to go Theif-acrobat and use him as a weapon. :) |
| TalonofTiamat12-10-05, 01:05 PM | Hulking Hurler wouldn't work for the same reason as Frenzied Berserker. Also, it's not what I'm looking for. Oh yeah, what's the Forsaker? |
| Lincoln Hills12-10-05, 04:23 PM | A barbarian with Quick-Draw and 2WF? You might actually look around for any prestige classes that were originally intended for Rangers. (The 3.0 Tempest class comes to mind, but I don't know if that PrC was updated for 3.5). Above all, don't go with Frenzied Berserker unless you're tired of this character and want to kamikaze him. FBs do not live long... even for PCs. And the party is not always wild about resurrecting them (unless, of course, the level loss involved wipes out the first Frenzied Berserker level: in this case, the first words of the PCs to the former FB will be, "And THIS time, don't take that PrC!") |
| allenchan12-10-05, 04:46 PM | Agreed. The classical "barbarian" PrC's will not be for you, since they are mostly built around the concept of THF, not TWF. Consider the Dervish PrC. No offense, but you have two -awful- feats for a barbarian, especially a Large one (UTILIZE THAT REACH), so you are going to find very few PrCs that accomidate what you have so far. ps: multiclass into fighter asap. |
| Gworraent12-10-05, 05:39 PM | war hulk. 10 lvl PrC, each level you get +2 to your strength. thats a deadly combo for a half-ogre if you are fortunate enough to roll an 18 for a natural stat. throw in some amulets of strength and you've got one kick arse killing machine! |
| TalonofTiamat12-10-05, 09:48 PM | war hulk. 10 lvl PrC, each level you get +2 to your strength. thats a deadly combo for a half-ogre if you are fortunate enough to roll an 18 for a natural stat. throw in some amulets of strength and you've got one kick arse killing machine! What book's this in? Also, she's from a tribe that focuses on 2WF. I only did it because it fit the back story, I didn't really want to pursue it. And what feats utilize large reach? |
| Jager Mage12-11-05, 06:11 PM | miniatures handbook...and if you wanna get really nasty, take the quick draw feat and get yourself a pair of whipswords from arms and equipment guide...swords with reach used by a large war hulk? Icky. Did I mention that whip swords work like whips for trip attempts? Oh yeah. |
| TalonofTiamat12-12-05, 05:00 PM | hmm... Miniature's handbook eh? It seems strange that it would be in there. It just seems to scream "Complete Warrior" or "Heroes of Battle". Can you provide a link for the information? Anyways, thanks. If any of you have further suggestions, feel free to post them. I find it strange there are vey few PrCs that are ggod for Barbarians. |
| ^Graff_EpsilonIX12-12-05, 06:19 PM | There is that class from complete warrior. Bear warrior or something like that. A forsaker is a magic hating build of doom with fast healing... They just can't use magic, period. You might want to take a look at the corrupt avenger too. |
| Professor Gas12-12-05, 10:18 PM | One of my players spent four hours rolling up a Frenzied Berserker for our campaign (he's never here, so I just let him make something equal to our level instead of starting off at 1st everytime he shows up). It took less than ten minutes to figure out the fatal flaw in the class. He died his first fight. ("Dude, roll up something that makes sense this time.") What a terrible prestige class. On the other hand, those with high strength ratings are better off with two-handed weapons for a number of reasons. 1) You only to crit once to do the damage of 2 two-weapon criticals 2) You overcome damage reduction more often 3) With Sunder, you can really cripple an opponent's ability to damage you back, especially if you destroy a fighter's specialized weapon. |
| GaffeR12-12-05, 11:39 PM | Getting back to the Barbarian PrCs, my favorite is the Runescarred Berzerker from Unnaproachable East. DR Extra Rage Greater Rage 5 levels of incredibly good spells carved into your flesh only problem is you need 15 wis for the 5th lvl spells which could be tricky with the half ogre |
| TalonofTiamat12-13-05, 04:23 PM | There is that class from complete warrior. Bear warrior or something like that. Yeah, that's the best one I found in the books I've got (and by best, I mean the one that wasn't frenzied berserker) Only problem is you take the form of a bear during a rage and thus can't use weapons. So far I haven't heard about any worth while. It just seems like there are very few good Prestiege Classes that work well with a Barbarian. This bothers me considering how much I like the class. :weep: If you can find anything else that's good please share it. At the moment, I think I'll hold off on a PrC. Thanks |
