Bards With Boom [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-04-05, 08:00 AM Hello, it's the burrfoot (again), i'm posting alot today.
This time it's about my bard she's level 17 and way lacking behind the other characters. I'm having trouble finding some spells which will give a bit of a boom. Iv'e also found some which i think should be on the bard spell list but aren't. It's generally sonic spells (which is supposed to be somewhat of a speciality to the bard). I found one called 'sound lance' it's good it's like a lightning bolt but with sonic energy. I found the picture in the new spell compendium art gallery (and it even has a bard-like character casting it at an owl bear [with a nasty hole straight through its body yeeeesh]). And yet I researched it only for 3rd level wizards and sorcerers! I think that bards should be given a bit more sonic evocations (especially when they specialize in sounds of all kinds, why can't they make it offensive?).
If they get ice storm (which baffles me) why not a tunnel of focused noise which tears into their enemies? :confused:

12-04-05, 11:01 AM Bards specialise in improving the abilities and lifting the spirits of others. After all, if everyone's dead, who's to be impressed by their wonderful repetoire of foreign, perhaps even extraplanar songs?

12-04-05, 11:17 AM Bards weren't meant to deal a ton of direct damage. Actually, wizards weren't meant to just deal a ton of direct damage either, but that's neither here nor there.

What books can you use?

12-04-05, 11:22 AM libris mortis, all the cores, masters of the wild, oriental adventures, forgotten realms campagn setting. underdark, magic of faerun, draglonce campaign setting, war of the lance, thats it i believe oh and players guide to faerun :)

12-04-05, 12:32 PM As a Bard-player m'self, I think it should be a PrC. A Sonic Caster Bard. I mean, taking a look at their list, the sonic dmging spells in it are not a large chunk of it. So specialize. Make a PrC that deals exclusively with sonic dmg. Think Elemental Savant but for Bards. Spell Foc: Evocation, Sonic Resistence, adding Sonic Dmg to a Weapon, maybe a "Wail of the Banshee" SLA at lvl 10. Play around with it.
