Basic Questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-01-06, 08:35 AM :confused: OK call me an unknowing fool when it comes to the newer versions. My last handbook is 2nd ed but I've noticed most are playing 3.0 or 3.5 online. I don't plan on picking up a new handbook and haven't found this info in SRD. I've picked up that ability scores can increase with levels but at which do they increase and the most basic question, starting money? How much does each level get since most people allow new character creation at different levels?

11-01-06, 08:43 AM Well.. for the ability score thing:

Every 4 levels (ie. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20) you get 1 point to slap onto a score, which increases it permanently.

As for wealth by level, I'm too lazy to pull out my DMG right now. Though, I would seriously suggest getting some books.

The SRD is great, but some times it's neccesary to pull out a book and rifle.

11-02-06, 09:40 AM Thanks Obox_ob. I would normally agree with you about being able to rifle threw books for information but my first edition set are actually the only books that got used. I bought the 2nd edition set hoping to get back into the game and only used them personally, almost memorizing them. Now I want to be sure that I am truely back into the game before investing in another set of books. Of course I'm seeing the problems of not having my own set, but that's why I asking these, for someone that's already played the game, extremely basic questions.

Is there a list somewhere of 'core' material not in the SRD?

That's correct. Anything having to do with character generation (XP, starting gold, wealth by level, etc) is not in the SRD.
