| Dragon Master Zero03-13-07, 01:04 AM | Problem: Party member has been captured by Red Dragons. I need to find a way to become immune to Fire damage so I can ignore the breath weapons. That gets rid of one of the biggest problems. I know I need to worry about other stuff but this is first on the list. Any ideas? |
| KillerGM03-13-07, 01:18 AM | Well, not knowing your situation very well... There are spells that make you resistant to fire. That's about as much as I can tell you, as I don't know what the group make-up is, or your access to stuff (you did say you were captured). More details would certainly generate more ideas. Is it you that was captured? If so, good luck. I doubt you'd have access to anything that would help you. ;) If you're asking to become immune to fire to go rescue the PC, then you've got more options. There are Arcane and Divine spells of energy resistance, as well as magic items that help with that too. |
| Dragon Master Zero03-13-07, 01:20 AM | Yeah i'm trying to go rescue a party member We're in a shared campaign world so there is no set party. My character thats going on this highly dangerous mission is a Barbarian 4th/Fighter 4th |
| KillerGM03-13-07, 01:26 AM | Yeah i'm trying to go rescue a party member We're in a shared campaign world so there is no set party. My character thats going on this highly dangerous mission is a Barbarian 4th/Fighter 4th I don't quite understand the shared campaign world. Is it just your character (Barb 4/Fighter 4)? If so, I'd probably try to find someone to come with you - at least a Cleric to buff you. :P As for the fire immunity stuff... It depends on your access to magical items. There are armor enchantments that grant you resistance to elemental damage. Also, I think there's an item that gives you Evasion (I can be wrong about that). So, when you make your save vs the breath weapon, you take no damage. Then there are potions of Resist Fire (I think), which, while not making you immune, will certainly cut down the damage you take from the breath weapon. I'd also be worried about the teeth and claws. Even if the red dragons don't breathe fire on you, those nasty natural weapons are a KILLER!! ;) Hope it helps!! :D |
| Coridan03-13-07, 01:55 AM | get to level 9 and take a feat from Sandstorm, forget the name, but you gain the Fire subtype while raging. |
| Yokomohoyo03-13-07, 02:03 AM | find a way to become half dragon red or gold depending on your alliment |
| runestar03-13-07, 02:37 AM | Are there any good forms you can polymorph into which are immune to fire? |
| Yokomohoyo03-13-07, 02:51 AM | Polymorph? I dont belive that you would gain the abilities of fire immunity since it doesnt allow you the supernatural abilities of what you polymorph into. The subject gains the Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores of the new form but retains its own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. It also gains all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form but does not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form or any supernatural or spell-like abilities. |
| runestar03-13-07, 03:03 AM | I was thinking more of the fire subtype...:P |
| FrostHammer03-13-07, 03:05 AM | If you were higher level, you could afford to get a ring of fire immunity...costs 66k |
| Yokomohoyo03-13-07, 03:17 AM | I was thinking more of the fire subtype...:P Like a Fire Mephit? | danielinthewolvesden03-13-07, 03:29 AM | I think at level 9 the Dragon Shaman is immune. The half-dragon can be, that's only two levels. Other wise, it's potions for you. And they just make you resistant. There's a rather cheapo item of Evasion vs only Dragon breath somewhere. |
| Dragon Master Zero03-13-07, 03:29 AM | Becoming a Gold half dragon seems like the best idea, but how to accomplish that? Is Wish the only way? |
| Yokomohoyo03-13-07, 03:56 AM | I belive that it has to be (since your character was already made) going to a temple of Bahamut and praying to him to convert you to one of his vassels... Or wish your self into one, becareful of Bahamuts wrath if you do... *Make Sure Your DM Dosen't See This Thread!!!* Lol |
| danielinthewolvesden03-13-07, 02:53 PM | Becoming a Gold half dragon seems like the best idea, but how to accomplish that? Is Wish the only way? You simply do not advance the next two levels. Now, as to the roleplaying "why" that is up to the DM for his campaign world. |
| leif00803-13-07, 03:40 PM | Real simple if you already have ranks in tumble -1 Level of Swordsage -Take the Flames blessing stance -Get as many ranks in tumble as you can. 4-8 ranks = 5 Fire resistance 9-13 ranks = 10 Fire resistance 14-18 ranks = 20 Fire resistance 19+ ranks = Fire Immunity |

Stance lasts indefinetly or dismissed, replaced by a different stance or until rendered helpless (sleep.) A level 8 character has trouble getting 19 ranks in tumble though. |
| unusualsuspect03-13-07, 05:22 PM | Energy Immunity, the 24 hour spell, is either a 6th or 7th level spell. Extended Energy Immunity (Fire) cast on your character, then, would protect you and your equipment COMPLETELY from fire damage for 48 hours... a decent amount of time to work with. Cost would be either 490 gp or 640 gp (Using the costs listed in the "Equipment" section of the PHB/SRD), depending on what level the spell actually is (Which is unknowable to me until i get home, since I don't have access to those books at my current location). For this to work, you'll need to find a 13th or 15th level caster to cast these effects on, of course... and as a mere 8th level character against what I can only assume to be several Large or larger Red Dragons (given the OP's details), you've still got quite a few worries to consider outside of immunity to the Dragon's at-will AoE ability... like their disgustingly nasty attack progression/attack bonus, their spellcasting (if any), and their maneuverability. |
| leif00803-13-07, 06:59 PM | Alternatly you can just buy the scroll for 50GP and skip taking the level in swordsage. Stance lasts indefinetly or dismissed, replaced by a different stance or until rendered helpless (sleep.) A level 8 character has trouble getting 19 ranks in tumble though. That requires a DC 20 Martial Lore check, which isn't going to be easy. It also looks like the stance would only last for the encounter, because it specifically says so in the martial script description and since it gets only the limitations of a stance (like only one active at a time) and not the benefits (like lasting all day). |
| draco111903-13-07, 08:09 PM | How about Aura Against Flame (Cleric 2, Druid 1) and/or Antidragon Aura (Cleric 3, Sorc/Wizard 3). Sheesh, why do you have to make everything complicated? :P |
| Flan03-14-07, 12:35 AM | That requires a DC 20 Martial Lore check, which isn't going to be easy. Only if you don't understand what alphabet is used to write the scroll. Easy solution is to buy ones that are in common, elvan, or whatever other languages you know. It also looks like the stance would only last for the encounter, because it specifically says so in the martial script description and since it gets only the limitations of a stance (like only one active at a time) and not the benefits (like lasting all day). I read the first line to basically mean you don't learn the ability like a wizard can scribe a scroll, you can only cast it once. Also the restriction only mentions maneuvers, like ones that last a certain number of minutes, it doesn't say stances, but I can see that interpretation. It's unfortunate they decided to define them differently, treat them differently but sometimes refer to both by just saying maneuver and other times not. |
